I saw my friend get mildew in his dreads and it was soooooo nasty! It was cuz he did not blow dry and always just threw them up into a towel or let it "air dry"

I would suggest the twist and rip method for a young kid because it jump starts the process and he wont have to be so patient as with neglect. Here is my TnR time line if u wanna check it out

i put ALOE gel on my dreads when they are wet and then i blow dry. It helps with the frizz

Yeah they look natural to me you could get this look with TnR eventually as well i think. But just so you know it will probably take you years for your dreads to be this neat and mature and nice looking. You dreads will be crazy messy and drive you NUTS for a while so u have to be patient! GOOD LUCK and Welcome to the site!!
