Oily hair?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Thanks! I'll look around for it. As far as the thyme goes, how do I add it? Brew it in a tea? Fresh? Oil? I have no clue how to do it. lol

Oily hair?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Okay, so back in March I stopped using shampoo and started using BS/ACV method of washing my hair. I had a lot of dandruff before (when I was using shampoo). I still had it when I used ACV... so I cut out the ACV and have just been using BS. Well, I'm happy to report that my dandruff is gone, however more recently when I have been doing the BS wash, my hair doesn't seem clean it just seems oily. I "wash" it 2-3 times a week (depending on how much I sweat). I don't use Essential oils anymore either. Maybe I have the ratio of BS/water wrong? I don't know. My hair is just above shoulder length, not really in dreads yet its just starting to section itself and its really thin. I use a large pickle jar (not sure how much water that is) and three table spoons of BS. Sometimes I add sea salt and sometimes not, it doesn't make a difference how oily it seems though either way. Any suggestions?

It is what she calls her dread scarves. They are cute and were recommended by grittyjane. I have ordered some and can't wait till I get them.

My hair is almost shoulder length and not really dreaded up yet. I've been on the natural journey for 33 days so its just starting. My tam looks okay, as long as my hair sticks out of it a bit, otherwise I think I look stupid. lol What are gypsy wraps?

Hi! :) So glad you are starting your dread journey! :) As far as a cover for the mess while your hair dreads... I have a wool tam that I wear only oionally right now since I live in central Alabama and its just too hot... but I picked up some light coloured bandannas and use those to cover the mess. Also you can find hair wraps that are made from recycled tshirts (of if your are crafty you can make them yourself), those would be a cooler alternative to a hot hat. :)

Just dreaded my hair

Introduce Yourself

Just so you know, your tnr "dreads" WILL come undone after a little while. When that happens, just leave them be and they will dread back up on their own. I had tnr dreads for a lil over a month and they came undone but now my hair is starting to dread naturally. Go look in the FAQ for some awesome tips which would answer about half of your questions if not more. :) Happy dreading! :)

Dreading Methods

I don't rub too often, I did a couple times a day for the first two day and have only done it a few times since. The shower it adjustable but it goes from either tons of pressure or lots of pressure, there really isn't much difference. Maybe I can try just filling my jar and dumping it on my head to rinse. Yeah I'm talking about Maylee's soap, I bought both a body bar and a dread bar. They are pretty easy to tell apart, the body bar has colors, so I make sure to only use that one on my body.

Crazy soft hair! GAH!

Dreading Methods

I just need a bit of encouragement, so I'm posting here. I startedgrowing my dreads naturally, 21 days ago. I wash about 2 times a week, either with some dread soap that I got from a shop on here or BS. My dilema is this; when I started, my hair sectioned itself and looked like it might be matting together nicely. There were tangles all over the place, but over the last week or so, they have untangled themselves. I don't know if it is the "dread" soap I am using or if it is my shower head (which feels like a freakin' waterfall!). Can water preasure actually untangle hair? Also, I went swimming, in a pool over the weekend and since then my hair seems like it isn't knotty at all. Would the chlorine have had an effect? I haven't put a comb through it in nearly 21 days and I rub my head on my wool tam to encourage knots. So I dunno what's up. Thanks in advance!! :)
