Methods of knotting.

Dread Maintenance

I'm looking to find a safe, reliable, residue-free method of helping my loose hairs knot a bit better. What methods does everyone use here? I let mine go natural with a bit of sea salt and tea tree oil spray ever other day between washes.

I dont know what to say...white people look dirty with dreads!!

General Talk

Well dirty is a very "vague" word.I mean obviously in this case it is meant to e offensive. But most Caucasians who have dreads have a "laid-back" lifestyle which most uneducated Americans would consider dirty. For instance most people think that washing you hair with a baking soda rinse is means your hair is dirty since your not using a fancy shampoo. It's an opinion that derives it's origin from ignorance. Some of the most beautiful people and clean people I have met have the most gorgeous dreads.

back combing help

Help! Save My Dreads

i have backcombed both sets i have had unaware of the damage it does. You don't have to comb them out just let them go all natural from now on. Alot of them may come undone, but this is the time to trust your hair they will re-dread the way they need to. No more combing, just separating and washing. that's my opinion anyway.

The best solution to dandruff I have found is : do what you have been doing with the baking soda wash BUT rinse with COLD WATER (as cold as you can take it). That really helped me.

My area is like that quite a bit actually, I know one person who has dreadlocks from my town, but he moved to a different state, I know one who lives 20 mins away who just started his journey shortly before mine, and I know of one guy from the capital (columbus an hour away)who's in a band, and I saw someone about 7 years ago who worked at the Zoo also in columbus but have no idea if she is still around. It is very saddening as I have no one near me to discuss this with. I have many people tell me they admire me and my hair and that they can totally see me having them and it wouldn't have even surprised them while I was in High School to have taken this leap but there are so little people around that actually have them it makes me wonder, my town seems to be two extremes....strung out drug addicts or richie rich peeps not many people that fall into the middle category :P

Am i right?

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I was very uneducated on the dreading process when i started this whole thing, so naturally my first time dreading i turned towards products like beeswax and the like. I absolutely hated everything about my dreads at that point. so i combed them completely out. I went a few months with normal hair when i noticed it was starting to dread naturally in places. Being excited i decided to re-dread it but this time it was going to be different. No products, no working on it every 5 seconds, not letting their constant appearance affect my everyday life, just when i feel like it. So here i am, i would say a couple months in and I suppose i am looking for some sort of affirmation that they are turning out correctly.. I like them alot. But i get lots of strange comments from people around me and i have absolutely no person around me to educate me on proper dread care. So, here they are... lemme know how im doing.
