The "Constantly Changing" Law of Locks

Dread Maintenance

They dont feel damaged. They just feel loose.

My diet and stress levels are pretty well maintained. Mostly vegetarian and I live a pretty clear lifestyle with daily amounts of meditation and yoga.

Locks are almost 3 years old. I wear them down 95% of the time.

I dont think they are dry and brittle. They just feel loose. Like I could (but dont) pull the lock apart. Some like one I posted earlier are getting weak spots that are thinning and in turn cause for breaking. I honestly feel they just need to be locked tighter.

Ill try the liquid within the next week. But the sea salt should I add it to the liquid shampoo, or just do sprays in between washes?

The "Constantly Changing" Law of Locks

Dread Maintenance

I wish I could define the issue more clearly. =/

For the record, im not pulling the ends apart. I was simply stating that to demonstrate how loose the once knotted up ends are, and are now coming undone, apart of my own doing.

All I know is, for awhile now, Ive been having ends come undone, loosing length, some breaking in half, and other shafts becoming weak and shedding. Whats causing it? Whats the issue? I have no idea, thats why im coming here and asking. Ive been supplementing with Biotin for the past two months and switched to the shampoo bars. Havnt noticed a improvement.

And yes, those two locks are the same. Just photographed 3 months apart to help demonstrate the damage. Should I go back to the Baking Soda? This was happening when I was doing the BS/ACV too, which is why I switched to the bars because people said I was frying my hair with the BS...

All my friends with backcombed dreads and even crocheted dreads have tigher, fuller locks that dont break, shred and come undone...I thought natural was supposed to be the healthiest and just dont know why mine are going through the ringer. :(

The "Constantly Changing" Law of Locks

Dread Maintenance

I have a hard time believing its shrinking because my locks are going on 3 years old...You can clearly see the loops and knots that all came undone and shed in the two pictures over the course of the past 3 months.

Should I add anything to my regimen? Sea salt sprays maybe? I have a hard time believing my locks are not moisturized enough because these bars are really nourishing.

Just wish I knew what was causing it. Its like they arent locked tight enough or something. I can literally pull the hair at the ends apart. Its barely hanging in there.

Yeah some people have suggested it was the BS frying my hair, which is why I switched to the bars.

The problem persists. =/

So after using the bars for 3 months, I can say this is not solving my problem.

Locks are still breaking off, ends are coming undone, and shafts are continue to weaken...I dont understand what could be causing this?...

People with natural dreads: Did you encounter your locks changing this much? Ive lost some serious growth and am still continuing to.

3 months ago:

Now:

Spirals and loops are gone and I lost about 2 inches in length...Is this normal??? :(

Thank you for the detailed response! :)

Im going to keep the post updated about my experience with the bars. Ive only washed twice with em, so its way to early to tell if they make a difference for sure or not.

How do you use the bars? Cut off a little and let it dissolve in a pitcher and pour it over the head? or scrub the bar on the locks to lather em up?

This one is starting to thin in the middle...A few locks had this problem and somewhere down the line broke off...

These ends have been thinning and thinning...

This end is knotted up fairly well, but I think its going down a similar road than a previous lock where the ends unravel and break off...

What should I supplement in my shampoo/care? Was using BS/ACV and literally just switched to the sandalwood dreadlocks shampoo bar.

Yeah Im not worried about it anymore, it was just alarming at how much loose hair there is. Itll get sucked in or it wont, whatever lol

I would think Jojoba oil, (or any oil for that matter) would be too conditioning for locks and would help them to come undone more?

Yeah ill post pics from my phone soon.

Well I got some of the dreadlocks shampoo soap bars. They arrived today.

My smaller thinner locks have been getting worse the past few months...Ive been loosing serious growth on some and Im thinking maybe its the hard water damaging my hair...

Ill make sure to update this post with my results. :)
