make em smell nice

Dread Maintenance

There are a few companies that make an essential oil, or "honey absolute." You have good taste, but I must say that you picked one of the more expensive oils out there! Lol! It ranges about 70USD for an ounce. It would go a long way, but I could understand if you don't want to pay that much. Still, it's a rare and interesting scent, and I couldn't count all of its benefits on two hands, if you know what I mean. Its generally used by aromatherapists and in hygiene products; about 1 drop per product, as it's very strong.

Dread Maintenance

Patchouli, cedarwood, and all tree-resin oils will last a looong time smell-wise. Also, sandalwood, Valerian and spikenard (some really don't like the smell, though), myrrh, and ambergris and all "musky" scents. Honey/beeswax (scents, not the actual product!) are also long-lasting. Floral scents (like ylang ylang and geranium) and herbaceous scents (such as sage and rosemary) tend to fade quickly, especially if their main smell component is phenol, like peppermint, anise and clove.

First time without any headgear and first dread comment all in one day!

General Talk

So just yesterday I decided that wearing a hat, beanie, or bandanna was only me hiding my hair from the world. I let go of the vanity and let my hair free, and got a few looks throughout the day (my dreads are in the messy half-recognizable 5 month stage), but then again I was *looking* for looks, so it might have been me assuming, lol. But anyways! I met a female acquaintance of mine in the parking lot at the cafe I frequent, the full moon was out (and 12,000 miles closer to earth than usual, btw), and a storm was brewing. I wan't even really thinking about my hair at this point, but it was flying around in the storm gales, and all the sudden my friend exclaims, "When did you get dreadlocks!?" That was a happy moment! She then went on to complement my dreads and ask how I could possibly be girlfriend-less, lol!

Was totally awesome. I let go of my vanity and got my first dread comment all in the same day! Today's my second day hatless, and I feel reborn. :D

I also got to explain to her and her husband how all hair naturally locks and dismissed a few dread myths!

Day 1 starts...NOW!

Introduce Yourself

Welcome to the site!

On the congo question, I would say it is natural, seeing as if humans still lived in nature, the locks would be separated by many different factors, considering the active and mobile lifestyle associated with wild-living (examples: tree branches snagging your hair, water-contact and swimming, river fording, natural movement of the head, etc.). Also consider that humans are natural groomers, much like apes and cats. E.g., of course it's natural. It also prevents too large of locks forming, which can be painful to the scalp and be so difficult to dry that mildew develops in the cores.

What are your reasons for not growing a beard?

General Questions

The warrior beard is a useful addition to any manly arsenal. As stated further above, there's the benefit of the sagely beard-stroke. When my facial hair thickens up I plan to rock an epic viking/dwarf beard (complete with braids and dreads) as that's part of my heritage. Er, the viking, not the dwarf. Though that's possible too. Still, I'm rather tall for a dwarf, if I am one.

Misguided racism (well isn't it always?) towards caucasian dreadies...

General Talk

Wow... the post was bad enough, but the comments were hateful. Then again, it's a site fueling racism, so what can you expect? It's not like there aren't white supremacy sites out there too, or Asian supremacy, or any race, for that matter. It's just one of those things, I suppose.

Add anonymity into the mix and people's TRUE colors come out. Forget race.

Apparantly johnny clean now sells hair growth vitamins

Dread Products

Synthetic vitamin and mineral supplements are in no way healthy. I suggest finding natural sources of these rather than bottles. Vegan diet is also a lifestyle, not a path to health. I'm personally not Vegan, though my diet is strict, rigorous, and very healthy. But back to the topic, my hair has grown around 6 inches in the past 5 months, as a result of my well-being and persuasion of mind. Thankfully mother nature has supplied me with the knowledge of my brother, who I hold as a very wise herbalist and nutritionist, and as such I am in no risk of mineral deficiency or any such ailment. In fact, I haven't been ill in any way shape or form for the past 4 years.

Just as a quick note, I'm in no way against Vegan diets. If it's for you, it's for you. But it's not for me.

A vegan diet will help and is super healthyI have been a veggi for years and am considering going vegan again. People think that a vegan diet is unhelthy but it is the best diet if done properly. Its what you eat, yer if you eat chips and white bread as a vegan you will be ill. Balance is the key to ANY diet . A good diet and exercise is the only way to make healthy hair.

As for vitaminsI think that they can help but are not good if taken all the time. Some vitamins are toxic if too much is taken, vitamin A and D for example. I take horsetail and B vitamins when needed. B vitaimns are the best as they are water soliuble, still i would not pop loads of them, Particullary B12. Everything in moderation. As for johhny clean selling vitamins its just another way to get quick fix dreads i guess.

Anyway am lucky has i have fast growing hair must be all thouse vegatables I guess, yum.

I believe that excess body hair would only result from a testosterone imbalance. Still, mineral and protein depletion would be pretty bad, and could lead to a laundry list of ailments and diseases.

Herbs, vitamins, and minerals do indeed increase hair growth, but only by improving the overall health of the individual. I wouldn't buy his synthetic and de-natured crap regardless. Though, what's off-putting is the lack of ingredients listed on the page. My guess is to not scare away customers with Dymethylezanathineoxide Plorinimate or some ridiculously long chemical name. But something funny is the only review of the product: the guy believing his hair grew almost an inch in a week. He judges this by pulling out a hair and measuring it, and then measuring a different hair a week later. *facepalm*
