Nice smelling hair

Introduce Yourself

I'm lazy and I buy Zum Mist from Whole Foods and spritz it down between washings. It's basically essential oils and water in a spray bottle. Shake, spritz, smell great.

Alone......

General Talk

*hug* You have us! You aren't totally alone.

PS Next time a little kid points or says something, use it as an opportunity to either teach them something or freak them the fuck out!

Dandruff on scalp and in dreadlocks.

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I've found that I don't mind a little dandruff as long as I'm not itchy! Remember that since you aren't brushing your hair anymore there's no way to remove the dandruff your scalp sheds naturally. I wonder if this is what you are seeing...

PS A cold water rinse at the end of my shower seems to help loads with itchy which in turn helps with the flaky.

Hair Loss?

General Questions

Since starting my locks, I lose so little hair I no longer have to clear hairballs from my shower drain. That being said, my backcombed locks took really good... I imagine if they fell out and I had to rework them there would be a lot of loose hair falling out because the knots originally had it locked up.

Dr Bronners.

General Questions

I keep a plastic cup in the shower. When I use my Bronners, I squirt a tiny bit (think less than a tablespoon) and then fill the cup with water. Then I just pour all over my scalp! It's the scalp you need to focus on more than the length of your hair; the bubbles will work their way down.

I have found that I get itchy faster when I use Bronners -unless- I follow with an apple cider vinegar rinse (and a good cold water rinse never hurt either).

Introduce Yourself

I'm really proud of you for starting your dread journey with so much purpose and meaning.

It sucks to hear you had to spend time in a group home. My parents rejected me too and I spent enough time in group homes and foster homes to relate.... except it sounds like you found love and support in yours. What a blessing, my experience was much less supportive. It's great that they could send you off ready to conquer the world!!

I wish you the best on this journey, please post pics because you have awesome hair to begin with, I want to see lots of pics along the way! :)

Dreadlocks Emotional Journey

Life Issues Facing Dreads

Thank you everyone for the love and the light. I really could use all the positive energy I can get and I'm trying to keep myself as open to it as possible.

I think the reason this has been so hard for me is that it is a compound problem; there's more than one thing that is making me consider cutting my dreads. One, the absence of self-love and two, the ties to my ex. Combined, they make a persuasive case, but on their own aren't good enough reasons. Alicia is right, it would be a shame to allow someone else to take my dreads away. And Valentin is right, too, it will only make me stronger (thus strengthening self-love!) I just have to keep being patient and wait for the storm to pass. I mean, dreadlocks are the biggest test of patience and I am doing really well at that.....

Shanxon I started my dreads in January. I know that's not that long, really.
