letting go doing nothing being free

Dread Maintenance

To some people it's just a hairstyle. They don't mind maintaining. They like perfection. They don't even know they're in Babylon, nor do they care. You know.

separating locs and shirnking

Dread Maintenance

Same here. Wet hairs want to just streeeeettch...when it's dry I can pull them apart much easier and less stressfully. Not sure why but I feel a bit panicked when I go to separate a couple of dreads and the hairs connecting them just stretch and refuse to break!!!

Personally I used to be obsessed with seperating and even kinda hindered a couple dreads from over seperating, so I cut way back I went to about twice a week maybe three times, now I'm just at whenever I feel something that needs seperated or once a week, tho I find it easier to seperate when dry for some reason when everyone else says to do it while wet, *ponders*

How Long Does Your Dreads Grow In the first 7 months.

Introduce Yourself

I feel the same way!! Mine was mid back before we backcombed. Now it's all above my shoulders!! I'm ready for some growth!!!

Wow, 21 years and barely past his shoulders. Damn I hope that doesn't happen to me. I want my hair to grow out so badly. I feel so naked and less feminine with my hair almost to my shoulders. :(

How Long Does Your Dreads Grow In the first 7 months.

Introduce Yourself

Oh say it ain't so!! I'm eight months and I *think* the shrinkage has slowed to a crawl, if not stopped. I love em, and I'm patiently waiting for them to get some length!! I've lost at least 2/3 of my starting length already!!

Mine are still shrinking even though I am well into my second year.

Big hair clips?

Dread Accessories

I have found big enough clips at Wal Mart, Sally's, even Family Dollar. I get ones with fewer teeth and larger spaces between, haven't had any issues with them. Good luck!!

When should I salt?

Dread Maintenance

I use a sea salt spray daily, avoiding the scalp. It works for my supa fine supa soft hair.

Hello fellow dreadies!!!! :)

Introduce Yourself

Welcome!! I had to laugh, cuz I'm 38, and when I'd been dreading a couple of months, my mom (72) was fussing over them and lamenting the loss of my "beautiful" hair...and my 45 year old brother said "Don't worry, Mom, it's just a phase...". Lol!! What ev uhhr!!! Glad you are here!!

Items that have meaning to you in your dreadlocks.

Dread Accessories

i love that you have things for your mom and dad!! i have a little silver owl-shaped bead on one dread that is for my late grandma, owls were her "thing", she had little statues of them all over, and it helps keep her with me. i'm looking for a mother-of-pearl bead to add in for my mom, that's her favorite. and i have two wraps in that my partner has done for me. pretty sweet!
