IM PREGNANT!!! but..

Dreads in the Family

I live in Louisiana. Super super conservative uptight. My husband and I have dreads, and my 7 year old daughter is starting hers. We get funny looks, and lots of questions, but it's really not bad at all. I expected it to be terrible. When my daughter expressed that she wanted them I sat her down and talked to her about the possibility of people judging her based on her hair, to which she expressed that 'mean people don't matter'. Don't ever let societies standards have and effect on you and your family. Love your baby, love your family, and people will see that. Plus you have a good 4 years before your child has any idea whats really going on, and when your child does start worrying, just explain it to them. Now is a good time to surround yourself with people who accept you for you no matter what, and your child will realize... eventually... and way earlier than other people... is that people who judge you based on your hair are simply not worth your time. Hope this was helpful and encouraging =) Good luck with your pregnancy!!!!

Fat, flat ends.

Dread Maintenance

Awesome, I had hoped they would just work themselves out. I know a few people around here with dreads but NONE of them have gone natural so I have nothing to go off of. I like my little loops and the individuality of each one, I was just wondering what they were going to do from here. Thanks so much! <3

Not super round, just, less fat and insane. I don't seen anyone with older dreads in pictures that have anything as crazy as these.

Fat, flat ends.

Dread Maintenance

January will be a year since I started dreading.... I started them by twisting and ripping, but it all fell out within a few weeks so I just left my hair alone and let it do it's thing... They are locking up nicely, I've lost about six inches of length now... but all the ends are super fat, while the roots are skinnier. Here is a picture of my glorious mess.

Are these guys going to round out themselves or should I roll them abit? I would rather not have to touch them other than to separate the roots here and there, but I would like my locks to be round. Any suggestions?

4-8 are good. I'll keep checking back and do some more tomorrow if more people haven't chipped in and got it done by then.

Nag Champa oils?

General Questions

Does anyone know how to make nag champa oils? I'm able to find them in stores and headshops, but I would prefer to make my own... that way I know exactly what quality products I'm putting into them and onto myself. Any help would be highly appreciated!

Whats it like being a dready parent?

Dreads in the Family

I really have had way fewer problems than what I anticipated. My seven year old is dreading her hair and my four year old is not ( I don't feel like she is old enough to make the decision anyway) and my husband and I have dreads. My seven year old (Juliet) attends public school and she doesn't have any problems other than kids just asking her about it. We try to let our personalities shine through, we are constantly smiling and when we are out together as a family, we mostly get compliments on how beautiful our children are. Living in Louisiana, I expected more ugliness about our situation, but have been pleasantly surprised. There is some intolerance, but mostly from family who feel they have the right to voice their opinion regardless of how rude it is. We will be moving to Oregon in the next year or so, and I hope it will be a better place for us. But regardless of where we are, we have love and that's all we need. <3
