not enough locks?

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

thanks for the responses guys :) yalls are looking pretty rad i dont feel so bad anymore. Phil ur right.. i do think they look so thin n junk but hopefully it will all even out. for the most part im ok with how things are goin but i dooo have those days where im uncertain and i start comparing mine to everyone elses. i had a lock that was pulling on my scalp due to placement and size and it took me an hour and a half to undue so it would be a pain to redue them all. i naturally have very thick curly hair so its such a change not to have a big poof on my head. plus i had this idea of how my hair was going to look before i did them and its not at all what i had invisioned. I will try to post some pics soon i guess.. i dont like showing off my hair at this stage but id love to get some feedback

help with scalp gunk...please!

Help! Save My Dreads

i use bs/avc and some various oils to wash my hair.. iv also noticed the gunk on my scalp.. when the weather was colder i never had that problem so sweat might factor into it. i have noticed that i dont have any gunk right after i wash but a few days later i will.. here is my theory.. when ur hair is all dreaded up its not moving freely anymore and your body is constantly gettin rid of dead skin as well as producing oils. this stuff isnt able to go anywhere so it just builds up on the scalp. just an idea. also try rinsing your hair with just very warm water inbetween washes to see if that helps.. that way your not over drying your scalp causingyour bodyover produce the natural oils that might make your head gunky :)

Cold Pressed Coconut Oil?

Dread Maintenance

coconut oil might be a bit too heavy to put in your hair.. and in order for it to make your hair smell nice ud have to use quite a bit..i use it in the shower on my body but i dont let it get near my hair. it prolly wont wash out too well..im picturing a greesy mess.. i could b wrong tho. u could experiment on one loc or something :)

almost brushed it all out :(

Dread Maintenance

heather.. im so proud of u! i wouldnt b able to go so long like that. that in itself is a big accomplishment. U said that you have put in a lot of work trying to get ur hair to dread as opposed tobeing a wash and go kinda girl before... i think u should go back to the wash and go completely. i wouldnt worry about separating and all that until u start seeing better results. i wish i would have done things differently in my loc journey. in the long run ur dreads will look far better than those who tried to get insta-dreads. another idea.. have u thought about bangs? or juz a cut to frame ur face that will be left undreaded? u can style that part in differernt ways for special occasions and such n tie the rest in a pony or whatever.. i usually do this poof sort of thing up top and most people cant even tell iv got locs from the front. && one more thing.. i saw u had mention not having very good results with the baking soda wash.. i dont want to write a novel here so ill juz say look up the "no poo" method. stuff in shampoos strip ur hair from its natural oils causing ur scalf to over produce oils.. balancing it out can take a while. hope this helps in some way. good luck!

Twisting dreadlocks Theories?

Dread Maintenance

Iive only had my baby dreads a few months now.. i redid them way too many times in the begining. i wasnt happy with placement etc. i would have prefered doing it completely natural but i needed to look presentalbe for work and what not.. looking back i really wish i hadnt. ive fiddle around with crocheting and found that the less i do the more happy i am with my hair. one of the things that i have been doin though is twisting my locs before i tie them in a ponytail just so they are a bit neater looking. if i leave the house my hair is up and im hardly ever home. After reading this thread im a bit worried. My locs are way thinnner than id like for them to be. Is it too late? Will they fatten back up if I stop twisting? Anyone know from experience?
