I split a bunch of my 2-year-old ones a few months ago, and yeah, you do lose some hair during the process because it breaks hairs (just like separating roots) and there's also a lot of loose hair inside the dreads from natural shedding that have nothing to hold on to anymore. It looks scarier than it is, trust me. :-) Just treat them gently and leave them alone, they will strengthen up within a few weeks. Mine have settled down and are finally gaining some thickness again.

How did you split them? I hope you didn't use scissors!

Here are the two split apart, you can see how tiny they are....I don't know if I should keep them tiny although everywhere else I have BIG dreads, or if I should put them back together....

Help! Save My Dreads

The one with the less dreads is the side I just re-did but then I twisted the two together and put a bead on it and im hoping that in months it will lock up. But now Im afraid to shower! Ugh

Help! Save My Dreads

So today I decided to split one of my dreads because it wasn't dreading at all due to wax (which I NEVER use anymore) I split it and SO MUCH HAIR came out of it, like tons on the bottom so instead of it being long it shrank about 4 inches, now its a barely there dread and that part of my hair looks like im bald. Now I don't know what to do because I have two tiny tiny tiny dreads that are barely like 4 inches long and the rest of my hair is down to m shoulders.....ugh

Should I combine those small two again?

Hi everyone! what do u think TNR or neglect?..

Introduce Yourself

At time I feel the same way. I did TNR with a little backcomb about two months ago, and I like mine a lot but I feel that my sectioning is a little off. for example, I have more dreads on my left side then my right, and I'm hoping they will even themselves out. However, I do love the crazy randomness of my TNR dreaddies and their random sectioning. Gotta just try to embrace them because ya can't turn back now

little amount of dreads

Introduce Yourself

I only have around like 20 or more dreads. Def. not more than 30....is that normal? And by normal I mean will that look bad when they grow out and get to be real?

uneven dreads!

Introduce Yourself

I know I shouldn't be worrying because I have kinda just been letting my dreads go after initially starting them up and sectioning them. However, now (about a month or so later) I have noticed that on my left side my dreads are fatter and I have more of them than on my right side. For example, I have about 11 on my left and only 8 on my right. It's really bothering me because even if it isn't so noticable there is definately a difference. My left side of my hair even poofs out a little more. Is there anything I can do other than wait it out and see if the problem fixed itself?
