Dread Accessories

Thanks for all the advice, guys :)

Keely Lime - you're welcome for the idea!

Fay Brotherhood - It's less about disease or germs I'm worried about, more about mites or tiny insects setting up shop in my OWN hair, haha. :P I've never had a problem touching bird feathers that are out and about, but putting them in my hair will be another thing.. :D

Thanks for the all the advice, all of you, and thanks for the Etsy listing - unfortunately, I have very little money for luuries at the moment, otherwise I'd buy some of those gorgeous things. :)

When the weather stops being so miserable, I'm gonna go out on the hunt for feathers.. there's plenty of seagulls around here, and they drop incredible feathers. :)

Dread Accessories

I think this might be in the wrong sub-forum, but it's about accessories for dreads.

For a while now, I've been wondering about feathers for dreadlocks. I'd love to get some real bird feathers (possibly dyed) and attach them to beads or clasps and stick them in my dreadlocks - but I'm a bit lost as to where to buy some. I've been keeping a bit of an eye out for good-looking feathers in the street that are in good condition, but I guess that with off-the-street feathers you'd have to somehow "disinfect" them so as not to pass any kinds of bird parasites/lice/insects into your hair.

So - question is, anyone know of any reputable shops online or in the UK that would be selling real feathers?

Thanks!

Beast from the east!

Introduce Yourself

Yeah, it's a bit of a bummer, that - but I guess such is the way of our consumerist culture now. :P It's okay, though - since dreadlocks are becoming more popular, all we need is sites like this one to come up in the top searches on Google, and business for DHHQ will start going down. :)

ah ok at leeast it was just wax and not the whole 80 dollar kit

i get so pissed off with how much money that guy makes off selling kits when at least 1/2 of them end up in the garbage unopened

Haha, awww. :)

I didn't get a refund unfortunately, 'cause the package was taken to the "main" post office (which is a 2-hour walk from my flat) and I kept forgetting to request a redelivery so I could send it back. But ah well - it wasn't too much, about 15, and it'll be a lesson in hasty buying. :)

Beast from the east!

Introduce Yourself

Hey everyone, I'm Nora, I'm from Finland but for the past year have been living in lovely Scotland. :)

I've been dreading "all natural" (no products or combs) for 6 months now, and I have to say, I love it. At first I thought, "oh no, it takes so long, oh no, lumps and swirls and weird shit will happen!" but I don't think I've ever done anything better with my hair - it's so exciting to wake up every day and see some odd, new thing in my hair. All my hair's mostly dreaded well now, the fringe is just starting, so this will be exciting as well.

I realise I'm banging on about crap, but most of all I wanted to say: thank you, so much, for this site. When I first looked into dreading last spring, I thought wax was the only way to go, and I actually went so far as to order a DHHQ wax kit, but thank god I was out when they tried to deliver it (and subsequently I forgot all about it) otherwise I'd have sticky candles instead of nice, soft dreads. Thankfully I found this place. :) So, soaring-eagle, this site is great, and thanks.

I'll post pictures of my progress tomorrow if I can. :)

- Nora
