Gas prices

Introduce Yourself

3.28 in Montana. 3.92 if you have to buy diesel cause it's a winter mix so it won't gel up in this cold weather.

Maybe certain hair types won't dread naturally? or will take a ridiculously long time?

Dread Maintenance

I second the 'how often are you washing your hair' question. I used to go a long time before washing cause that's what I thought I needed to do. I was fighting to wait a week and my hair was just so greasy and nasty and my scalp felt awful, so I started washing more often. I now wash every third day like clockwork. It really helped my hair to lock up. Maybe you're washing too little or too much. All you can do is experiment with it and see what works best for you.

looking for a easy and painless way to dread.

Dreading Methods

First of all, dreading shouldn't be painful to begin with. Quit brushing your hair and as your sections form, make sure they stay separate at the root to prevent congos. No pain there. If you want to help your dreads along, you can backcomb, which shouldn't hurt if done correctly (if it hurts your head, then you're doing an awful lot of damage to your hair and you don't want that). You can also help your dreads along by using the twist and rip method, which may sound painful, but isn't if also done correctly. I helped my 3 year old's dreads with twist and rip and she didn't complain one bit. She's got baby fine, caucasian, very straight hair and hers are locking up super fast just by leaving them alone and letting them do their thing.Whatever you do, don't put rubber bands in your hair. Rubber bands cause breakage, get lost in the dread and rot. Plus, dirt and grime gets caught under them and it's gross. Besides, the idea you posted above wouldn't allow your hair to dread anyway. It would prevent knots from forming and knotting is the ultimate goal.Dreads are painless, but take time to form and mature. If you're looking for insta-dreads, I'd get a wig. Other than that, if your hair is nappy like you say, it should lock up without much help anyway. All hair forms knots eventually if left alone.Good luck with your journey!!!

Introduce Yourself

Your hair will go through phases of locking and loosening. It's normal. Stop backcoming and let them do their thing. Take the bands out, as others have said. Be patient (I know it's hard). Remember that less is more. The less you mess with them, the more they lock and become real dreads (not insta-dreads).Enjoy your journey!!!!!

The ends of some of my dreads are forming large balls....what's up???????

Introduce Yourself

Thank you all for the reassurance! I think one of the biggest surprises has been for me is how much length I've lost. I was kinda getting worried for a bit that they were all just going to turn into big balls on my head. I'll relax a bit and let them do their thing. I guess they are just being teenagers right now =)

The ends of some of my dreads are forming large balls....what's up???????

Introduce Yourself

Ok, so I'm 6 months in. Let some sections form and helped along with TnR. Other than that, not much interference other than keeping the sections separated. I noticed the other day that the ends of several of my dreads are locking up super nice up top and in the middle, but are forming these strange large balls (for a lack of a better word) at the end. Seriously, I swear more and more are cropping up every day. I feel like I'm beginning to look like a small Christmas tree with these beautiful branches and then those little ball ornaments hanging off the end. It's really strange. I'll be honest that I'm not really fond of this look at all.So is this a phase? Am I simply going through some sort of transition? Do I need to put some beads in or wrap them or something to kinda control what's going on?Any and all help is appreciated!

First time meeting parents.

Introduce Yourself

Do what makes you comfortable. Sure there is a certain amount of nervousness meeting the fam for the first time, but just be yourself. Keep in mind that your boyfriend's parents are likely going to be more focused on the wedding, entertaining guests, etc so there's a good chance they won't even notice your hair to make judgment. Just make sure that the style you choose and your attire is appropriate for the wedding. If it's a black tie event, don't dress like you're going to a rave or something (best example I can come up with this early in the morning). After all, it's not 'your day', its your boyfriends sister's wedding, so be respectful of that fact. I think how you portray yourself (positive, vibrant, unique, polite, etc) will be the first impression, not just your hair. Make sense? Most of all, have fun!!!!

Question about using a hair dryer with dreads...

Dread Maintenance

Hello, all!My daughter (age 3) is sporting her first set of dreads. They look beautiful and are locking up naturally very nicely. I wash her hair every three-four days. On the evenings that I wash her hair I've been towel drying well and then doing a bit of blow drying on the lowest heat setting. Not only do I not want her going to bed with a wet head, but we live in the mountains in MT at 7000+ above sea level and it snows here 9 months out of the year. I really don't want her walking around with a wet head when temps are that low. So my question is, could the blow drying on low damage her beautiful dreads? I've always read and heard about how bad daily blow drying is on hair, but I wonder if only doing it every few days on low is all that bad.Thank you!
