Is That A Penis In My Dreads?!!!

Life Issues Facing Dreads

You never know she might have been really shy and felt under pressure to converse being in a queue with another dreadie..... or perhaps she thought yours were better than hers and didn't want to be judged lol :P

Something I have found... without meaning to generalize at all, because its a finding based on a very few people I have met..... is that some people who go down the high maintenance route are beyond help because they have never truly been in the 'dread mindset' in the first place and have not experienced that feeling of almost rebirth they give you....

One specific person I can think of was never ever really a nice person on the inside.... really negative towards people and very judgemental and I think he only got them cos they look cool, and he has spent soooo long maintaining them, and lamenting that he thinks they look crap and he misses his former glorious long hair... he has really not enjoyed his dreading journey from what I can see...... Perhaps it's karma for being so generally unpleasant and parasitic towards people throughout his life......

He referred to me as a poser when I first decided to start dreading........

Brand new dreads

Introduce Yourself

Definitely unflip them It will create a weak point, and you need some loose hair at the scalp anyway so your scalps not under too much pressure, and is protected from the sun etc. There is a crochet recovery group somewhere on here, but from what I have gathered, the best thing you can do is unflip the roots and then just leave them alone to loosen up a bit so they can dread properly on their own.

single minded people not understanding my dreads :/

Life Issues Facing Dreads

At high school, if you do the exact opposite of what they try and tell you to do, you will grow up as a much better, well rounded and compassionate individual. Fact.

feathers

Dread Accessories

Oooh, the only thing I have found though, is that after owning a feather, or an untreated skin with fur on it for about 2 or 3 years, you tend to get..... I don't know if its some kind of mite, or clothes moth or something, that starts munching on the hair shafts and feather barbles etc. But maybe thats a sign from nature you've kept hold of her gift too long and its time to find a new one with new energy :)

feathers

Dread Accessories

I personally wouldn't even bother disinfecting them myself. If they've been moulted, then there is unlikely to be anything living on them anyway. I have found the best attitude to germs and nasties is to bear in mind germs are good for bolstering your immune system :P and I have never been seriously ill. Even when I used to play with dead rats as a kid.... :/ (Yes I was a bit odd....) All this disinfection rubbish is silly in my opinion..... Native cultures use feathers and animal parts all the time for decoration, and I'm sure they don't worry bout disinfection :)

Decided to redo dreads

General Questions

I feel really bad lol. From following the 'sacred instruction of Jonny Clean'..... when my ex started dreading, when loops and loose bits appeared in his back combed dreads he got me to interlock through those bits for him, so now many of his dreads are interlocked like half way up................. :/Ooops.

General Talk

Dude, if I were you, having established such a great place with so many people who are regular contributors of advice, I'd just sit back, step back a bit and chill a bit, and watch the dread saving revolution unfurl. You've kicked some massive cogs in motion now, which I believe would keep turning even if you didn't post for a few days. Don't put too much pressure on yaself man! Its a generous hobby benefiting other people, and thus doesn't need to be a total job. I hope its not takin too much time from the other things you like to do in life :)And have thee an awesome crimbo!

loctician dread disaster (yet again)

Dreading Methods

Yea man listen to these guys. My ex was dreadin for a year with all the techniques you read about and totally wasting his time bless him, to end up with waxy candles that aren't really fully dreaded yet.... :/ I decided to embark on this journey a month or two ago and was gonna go his way, with all the products and maintenence etc til I stumbled on this site. I have since done nothing but a bit of t&R, washing and seperating and its goin great! I have come to understand the twisty lumpy bumpy crazy journey they must go on to become dreads and don't mind it, and I feel its a far more satisfying journey than what I'd have had if I'd listened to the money grabbers........People aren't aggressive here.... they just don't want you to fuck up an experience that should be beautiful on the words of money makers.

1 month of neglect and some t&r...Is this looking right?

Introduce Yourself

I would say, if its two sections that on tracing to the root are in two completely differeent sites on your head then you shouldn't let em, but if its two, not to big, adjacent bits that seem to wanna be friends then roll with it :)
