A few questions, which should be easy 4 any dready 2 answer

Dreading Methods

Okay, just to add to the massaging, here's what you want to do. Btw, be careful you don't undo any knots!

Use the balls of your fingertips in a circular motion with firm pressure and upward strokes. Avoid scratching or using your nails which can create scalp sores. Oh and tea tree oil is supposed to be really good for dreads, never used it myself but plenty of people on here have, and it can give you a healthier scalp and relive itching. I think you can pick it up from any sort of herbal store.

Hope this helps brother

Dreading Methods

Hey,Um, honestly everyone's dreads are different and if their itchy, it's nothing to panic about, and if they're not itchy doesn't mean they're not dreading up either. Again, all dreads are unique so if they're itchy for a while, or not that long, it depends on you.If your really struggling with itching I've heard a bit about massaging the scalp helping to relive the itching. I'll have a look in a sec and post what i find out.And I've heard about crocheted and backcombed dreads falling off because of some of the damage they can do, which ultimately can weaken the roots so much the dread does fall of, and if wool rubbing or twisting is done to an excess, well lets say people twist and rub dreads right off, but a natural, healthy dread falling off? Never heard of it :SJah bless brother x

I love the loopy stage!Their coming along really well, and i think the loops and bumps is the hair moving around before they knot up really tight, i think you lose a bit of length next, not sure though, can anyone clarify ?Amazing dreads anyway sister

starting out

Introduce Yourself

Um, tbh, the best way to start out depends on you.If your impatient or need to look professional for work:I'd put twist and rip over the likes of backcombing and crochet hooks (is that how you spell it lol.) The hook rips hairs apart and to pull in one loose hair your probably destroying hundreds more. Backcombing, well theres little scales on your hair and your going back against them, damaging the hair, and your hair sticks up every + can hurt like hell.TnR - Twist and Rip - You just twist a section of a hair and split in two at the top so the knot moves to bottom, keep repeating till its at the tip of hair.If your growing for spiritual reasons or have time and patience:In this case, natural is best. Very little maintenance and you have a great journey. Just stop combing/brushing. You can use any shampoo - no conditioner; but you should really have residue free shampoo, so the residue doesn't build up. People also separate the dreads if they start to kind of eat each other (or congo as it's called) when they're dreads are at the thickness they want.Hope this helped, Peace.

Dreading Methods

It's really strange how one hairstyle can be so misunderstood.

why am I paranoid??

Introduce Yourself

Andrew's idea is a good one, congo the dreads around, and new dreads grow along with old ones anyway, so it should go away. I'd advise not to go near the hook or comb again, if your impatient i'd put twist and rip over backcombing anyday.

HELP! half a head of waxy dreads and no avena originals in uk.

Introduce Yourself

Some people Iron them out, but if you do that be really careful not to burn your head.
Just be patient. Dont worry, a lot of people make that mistake !Have a look through all the forums im sure you'll find some thing, and if they've just been done, get in the bath put a ton of conditioner in your hair, comb the dreads out and start again. If you have the patience, natural is almost always best, and if not, i had good experiences with twist and rip. If you dont how to do it, message me or something i'll tell you.One heart x

Will super straight, fine hair lock up by itself?

General Questions

Just leave your hair alone, it will dread! All hair dreads, just with time. In fact, forget time. Forget dreads and forget you have hair. Dont brush, only wash, no conditioner, two or three times a week. Want to accelerate the locking? Go for a swim in the sea, sea salt is amazing. Thats it.
