Should I Convert To Another Soap/Method?

Dread Products

Thanks. I should probably look into uploading a couple recent photos. It's been a while. Regarding the oils, I found some info on how I can use these oils. I think I might benefit from trying out some aromatherapy. I'll have to see what else I can do. Thanks again!

Should I Convert To Another Soap/Method?

Dread Products

Well, in that case, it'd be foolish of me to pass up trying one of the shampoo bars. I'll try one out. I'll have to look into the charcoal a little bit later. Thanks for the insight. Now, I only wonder what I'm going to do with my remaining oils...

Should I Convert To Another Soap/Method?

Dread Products

Dropped by the site and saw mentions of Dr. Bronners causing problems. Would anyone mind filling me in as to what the issue is? Also, it has come to my attention that BS/Vinegar(I've used white, not ACV up to this point) is apparently very harsh and is not advised to use to wash hair. My usual method is:- Big ol' bowl of hot water -Eye ball about a half cup of BS -Apply oils -Put in a little Dr. B and mix -Let my hair soak for a bit, rubbing my scalp down after the water cools down a little -Dump water, fill it back up with cold, put in some vinegar, add oils, soak and rinse Will this cause problems in the long term? I mean, I don't do it that often(usually once a month, no more than twice in two months), and it seems to clean very thoroughly. Should I look into one of these dreadlock shampoos/bars? How well do they work in thick dreadlocks?

I'm in need of an elastic. No plastic.

General Questions

I'm unsure of how successful I'd be with hairpins. And Baba, I might need a visual example of how to tuck my dreads. It's mainly the thicker ones on the sides that give me trouble. Caleb, I've tried the t-shirt thing, but it's far too tight. I might just need to use larger shirts, though. Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys! Maybe after class I can upload a photo of a tucking attempt.

General Questions

Trust me, I've tried tying my dreads together. It was a giant mess. All the thick ones wouldn't cooperate at all. Maybe after it gets a bit longer I'll be able to manage, but for now I definitely need... something.

General Questions

Recently started college and even more recently began job searching. I'm positive my hair is going to raise some concern, whether I like it or not. I'm not too upset about that. Problem is, my hair is, well, very thick. It makes it a bit difficult to tie back, and until I start getting paychecks, I don't think I'll be able to buy a tam. I can tie the hair on the top of my head with simple fabric, but the sides need something a bit... tougher. Anyone know where I can purchase a cheap elastic that'll get the job done? Any recommendations?

what are your dreads like?

General Talk

I've got about 64. Give or take 2 or 3, since I always feel like I've counted some of the same ones twice. As for thickness, it varies depending on where on my head they form. Towards the front, they're thinner, but in the back(especially on the top), they're fat and hungry, like an obese kid. I've got mediums just about everywhere and a few skinnies. My dreads are mostly smooth, but I think that's due to my hair texture. Never saw too many loops as they formed. Had a lot of balls of hair forming at ends, though. Heck, I still have a few in the back. For the most part, I love 'em, but I just wish the ones in front grew back and not out in my face. D'oh well, what can you do with african hair? It does whatever the hell it wants.

Dreadlock Nightmares...

General Talk

Dread nightmares? Interesting... I can't say I've ever had those. Although mine are kind of thick. I can't really imagine them breaking off. I suppose it's possible though.

Hats. Hats, Hats, and nothing but Hats!

Dread Accessories

I didn't refresh the page and missed that lovely caricature. If I have time to go out to the store tomorrow, I will certainly do that. Thanks, Valerie. And thanks, SE for the bun suggestion. It led to braids, though, since my hair is waaaaay too thick and not quite long enough for a bun.
