Any regular shampoo users?

Dread Maintenance

i used regular shampoo exclusively for well over the first year of dreading. having really hard water made it impossible to use bs/acv, dr. bronners, etc that other dreadheads were using. in reality almost anything we use to wash our hair will leave some sort of residue. the trick is to find something with the least amount of ingredients and no conditioners or silicones. also make sure you rinse the shampoo out really well. if you tell me which vo5 shampoo your using than i can look up the ingredients. i would suggest getting a natural shampoo instead of vo5. natures gate, kiss my face, and bentley organics makes some nice ones. better yet, order the locking up liquid shampoo from dreadlockshampoo.com. great stuff. i personally use the shampoo bars and will never go back to store bought shampoo.

A strange worry

General Talk

i'm at 2 1/2 years now and most of the craziness has stopped. i do find myself missing the beginning stages. as for the new growth, I've noticed that a lot of it is remaining loose which i kind of like. I'm sure the longer it gets the more likely it is to dread up but for now I'm embracing the wisps of softness :)

DANDRUFF!!!

Help! Save My Dreads

bs/acv wrecked my scalp. i tried all the combination of oils and none of it worked. i finally switched to a ph balanced shampoo and my dandruff got better but my scalp would still itch.. i then tried the dreadlock shampoo bars and my dandruff is 99% gone. they really do work. my scalp hasn't been this calm and not itchy in over a year. if your dreads are new then i would bet the locking up liquid shampoo would work just as well. good luck!

the bars actually lather a ton but in hard water you really need to use quite a lot and your hair has to be soaking wet. once i figured out how to make them work for me i will never go back to any other shampoo. oh and goddess is my favorite:)

Scalp help

Dread Maintenance

bs/acv caused me intense itching and ton of dandruff. switching to a ph balanced shampoo or using the dreadlock shampoo bars is the only thing that got rid of it for me.

Shampoo help. New to the world of dreads

General Questions

sulfates are not conditions. they strip the hair of oils and help the shampoo suds. most avoid sulfates because they can be quite drying for the scalp and hair. this shampoo has a bunch of other ingredients though that will condition your hair and leave residue. i would avoid it. do the bs/acv wash until you can get the locking up liquid.

Still having dandruff problems! :c

Dread Maintenance

i loved how bs/acv made my hair super clean but it wrecked my scalp. No matter what ratio i tried it just didn't work for me. the dreadlock shampoo bars are the only thing that has gotten rid of 99% of my dandruff.

My BS/ACV experience, (for those who suffer from dandruff). I also need some advice

Dread Maintenance

i would cut back on the amount of oils your using in your bs mix. tea tree is very drying and can make dandruff worse plus too much essential oils can leave some slip in your hair. i would suggest no more than 5 drops total.

one thing that helped my dandruff is i do a gentle scalp scratching with my nails before i wet my hair. it helps to loosen the flakes on my scalp and they wash away easier.

~Dreadlockshampoo.com's shampoo bar's question~

Dread Products

oh and vicki sent me a couple of samples of the herbal and satsuma bars with one of my previous orders. satsuma has a yummy orange citrus smell and herbal has a neutral herbal garden scent. both are good for guys and girls alike.
