What Made you decide to dread?

General Talk

I'm 17 and I got the idea just cause I wanted to do something with long hair that was different. But It wasn't just cause of that. I had asked some of my friends and some were like cool with it, you do you kind of thing. And some others were like asians and dreads don't go well, especially ones with straight hair. But the journey is gonna be cool, and I've grown somewhat in love with dreads. Just the whole way it is, the process.. Its awesome. hahaIt's just a whole journey itself, and thats what I want to experience. Some sort of change, it'll be fun. I'm only four months into the journey of natural dreadlocking. And its going well. :)

Going Natural

Introduce Yourself

I'm going natural too, I've noticed that the back is tangling up faster than the top of my hair. haha

Hey!

Introduce Yourself

I remember being paranoid and stuff about my hair. The only problem I have with it is dandruff, everything else is fine. :) Thanks guys, I'm already at 3 months natural. :) This site has made me love dreadlocks and just seeing the love and progress is amazing.

Introduce Yourself

I was going to try twist and rip, but it was a bit too much. I'm just going to go natural, hopefully it'll work in the long run with jobs and etc. If not, I believe I have the opportunity to study across the seas, hopefully somewhere like Europe or Asia.Though I am just letting it doing it's thing, I just need to be prepared for the long run as well, just for washing the hair. That's my main priority because, right now, I'm really not caring how my hair looks, I just want it to dread, so I'm just not focused on the looks, more of the 'quality,' how to maintain it and whatnot.

Introduce Yourself

I'm thinking about backcombing it once it's long enough, because I don't think I'd start off on neglect just yet. I don't want to start off with neglect because of school, and I sort of want a job.Would the length of my hair have to be the same? Because the top part is slightly shorter than the back, so it's in somewhat of a mullet. Eh, it doesn't have to be, but it could be.But thanks for the help! :) I really want them!

Hey!

Introduce Yourself

I'm Christian and I'm new to this site. I've been wanting dreads for a few weeks now and I'm wondering still whether I should get them or not. Or which way I should. I have really straight hair, I'm asian. I guess that's why, Lol. I was wondering how to maintain it, If I do start off with neglect. And the same question if I were to crochet it. Thanks!
