Turning a wine cork into a bead

Dread Accessories

Yeah, I don't wear any if my beads when washing or wet for that very reason :)

i have a little concern about the inside (loose cork) holding water in your dread. So i would def coat it. It may or may not be a problem but to be on the safe side, maybe not wear it when washing..or when hair is wet.

Turning a wine cork into a bead

Dread Accessories

Hello all!

I have a cork that I've put a small hole through (perfect size for me), but inside is all the corky mess and I'm not sure how I can get rid of this so that it doesn't get stuck into my hair when I put it on/leave it on.

I've got plans to follow through the hole with a drill to make the hole more uniform, but besides that, I really don't know how to smooth out the inside to make it wearable.

Any thoughts?

Gathering in or near Quebec.

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I definitely have a friend who may want to come, but I won't know for sure if he can until closer to the date. I don't have facebook, so I'm not sure I'd be able to see the page. When you figure out the dates you'll be there for, I'd love to know so I can try and plan accordingly as time gets closer :)

Cool. So far we are three in the car (you included if you can) if you have any body else that would like to come I might have room for one more. I will keep you informed for sure. The group rainbowQuebec is onFacebook if you want more info.

Thank you so much! I would definitely love a ride. I'll get back to you when I have a better idea of when school starts up for me in August to see if I'd be able to stay for a week or not. But if I can, I'll definitely accept the ride offer!

It's in the Temiscouata valley (Bas-Saint-Laurent region). The exact place is not yet determined the rainbow counsel said that they will probably decide in June. The gathering is during the full moon of August ( the 13) I think it last a month a few weeks before and after. I will keep you informed. If you need a ride there I can give you one. I will be going for a week.

Jdwood, can you let me know when/where the gathering you found out about is? I'd be really interested in going if I can manage it!

Giving up shampoo

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Well, it depends on what you mean. A lot of people here don't use shampoo in the typical sense; they use baking soda. Do you mean giving up shampoo by not washing? If so, I'd encourage you to keep your hair clean! Clean hair will knot up a lot easier than oily hair.

What type of dreads do you think my hair will make naturally?

Dreading Methods

It depends on how small you keep the sections (I'm only a month in natural, mind you, so that's the only direct experience I have). But from what I've read, it's best to keep them small in the beginning, as they thicken up over time

what kind of dreads? It'll make dreads... I'm not sure what you're asking here. They'll be thick or thin depending on how you separate, if that's what you mean :)

Mildew worries, how concerned should i be about dread-rot? and what do you think of Dr. Bronners?

Dread Products

I have the lavender Dco Brons at home. Is there any way I can tell if my water is hard or not? I never understood what hard or soft water was.

peyote sleeves :)

Dread Accessories

I got started making peyote stitches with the help of knottysleeves. It's awesome that you want to start! It's a lot of fun.

I was lucky enough that my mother had inherited a bunch of beads and supplies from a woman who did a lot of beading, so I had everything I already needed at my disposal, including books. I looked through the books, and looked on YouTube for tutorials on the basics (I'm a visual learner; books aren't always the greatest teachers for me) and I refused to stop until I had it right, no matter how messy my first sleeves turned out (the first one was very messy!)

When it comes to making designs, I just mix a couple of colours and alternate them, or use them at random, or just use one colour entirely. I'm only just starting to figure out how to make stripes.
