Humid climates

General Questions

ok, good to know. There's a lot of dreadies there in HI. So i figure it's fine. Its so tempting to dip your head in the ocean every chance u get with new locks !

the salt that remains in your hair would actually prevent mold from growing (not long term) but long enough for your hair to dry at least. i live in florida and though the summers are miserable and humid I haven't had any problems even when i went to the beach constantly

Humid climates

General Questions

Ok, cuz I got in the ocean the first day, sincevthe salt water is so great for then when they are forming. But then I realized how moist it was there. It seemed like it was having a hard time drying. Maybe the salt in it felt weird, too. Anyway by the end of the trip, I was trying to find ways to avoid any moisture. Alot of people there have dehumidifiers in their homes, which would probably help.

Humid climates

General Questions

Hi, I was just wondering is there a lot more chance of getting mold in your dreads if you live in a humid, rainy climate. I just got back from Hilo, Hi; and it rains a lot there. After I got out if the ocean it seemed like my hair stayed moist the whole trip. I started to avoid the water. I didn't bring a hair dryer either. I wasn't expecting that. Next time I will try to keep my head covered to avoid the rain and misty air.

dread extensions?

Dread Maintenance

I agree with dreadymom. If that's what u want to do, go for it. I did mine and really like it alot. To me, it kinda gives my dreads a head start and makes them easier to manage( ex. pull back in pony tail). It was also kinda fun to do. It's nice to have the option to lengthen like that and they blend so seamlessly.

i think everyone has a different take on their dreads. I have mine because i love the way they look and i love how i can be creative with them, and in turn, it turned into a little journey for me. i dont exactly believe in the same opinions as soaring eagle or the other first two or three posts, basically all the negative ones. I actually just got extensions myself. i have about 10-12 inch long dreads that are mine, and I actualy fell into a set of human hair dreads that i did not have to pay big bucks for, nor did i want to make them myself, so i crocheted them in 2 days ago and they look incredible. I dont pose to be a person who has grown them longer, nor will i ever be that person. My dreads will be 1-yr old in november, and im not gonna lie about it. i also will be up front and honest with whomever asks me about my dreadlocks. i will tell them straight up that they are half mine and half human hair extensions. i love them ... and when they are long enough to about where i really wanted, then i can get the extensions out and have my original locks at the perfect length. everyone has a different opinion, and I think that is A-OKAY!!!!

I want to add more dreads, but I have to go to court

Introduce Yourself

i just want to add....The thing about my hair is a minor issue to this case. I have just been doing my hair lately and the found out about this and was like "maybe i should chill out on my dreads for awhile" but i dont know how long this will drag out. I really dont care. Im not taking my peircings out for them. I may wear along sleeve shirt to cover my ink, though. When it comes down to it, my husband and I are not trying to take something away from my parents. We are just like "look we are a family now, and we expect our son to act a certain way. If he does something we dont agree with or disobeys us, my husband or myself have the right to correct him. We just dont want him staying the night with them for a little while. We used to joke about it, " he turns his hat around backwards with them." LOLI just know my son's potential and it hurts my heart to see him unruly and have all out meltdowns around them. They give him no guidelines.I am trusting God on this one b/c my husband and I are just trying to raise our son right.

yeah, i was thinking about that. And what if the judge was discriminating about the details of the case based on their own opinion or experience. So you never know, you just have to hope your judge is just. Chewin Change said:
of course they do. but in the court of law, discrimination is taken seriously.

Thats funny you say that, because i think the part of my hair thats un dreaded looks messier than the part that is. The dreads actually look neater. recoverytrouble said:
This is exactly how I feel but have never been able to convery it in so few words! Awesome!

Do you think having 1/3 or 1/2 a head of dreads is going to look any more presentable than a full head of em? Not saying you should or shouldn't but after a point they're gonna be noticeable no matter what and if only portions are done it may look even scruffier.

Chewin Change said:
i wanna add... that yes they do but if you have dreadlocks, it's best to give up caring about what anyone thinks. in a good way.

you can't control others' perception. and all you can do is do your best to change your own.
