Help! Save My Dreads

Oh my, dove? You were better off just using cold water. Dove is meant to distribute moisture so that you don not have to put on a lot of moisturizer post shower. But I totally understand your situation, I think a baking soda wash will be great. Also I would recommend some Dr Bronners peppermint soap and put in some drops of tea tree oils.

My new favorite soap...You'll LOVE it !

Dread Products

SE has a point. I use that stuff for acne, I have never heard of it being used for hair. But they do sell liquid soap so maybe that won't have as much butters and oils.

To be honest I have actually been getting into making my own soap.

Oh boy I used to be a huge Nubian Heritage soap fan. I used to buy it in Harlem and get six bars for ten dollars and some free incense. I went to the actuall nubian heritage store in Jamaica Queens and they are very helpful, and the bars are 3 dollars each.

That soap did total wonders on my skin but when I moved I was a bit miffed because other places sold the soap for ridiculously high prices. If you go to a mom and pop beauty store they sell varied kinds for 3-5 dollars a bar. I never thought of trying that on my hair! If I could remember which brand did wonders for my skin. I remember it had wildflower bits and came in a brownish box. By the way they sell liquid soap too.

Downside to dreads? Keeping it real!

Introduce Yourself

My only downside is when I stick some cowrie shells in my hair. My kitten gets entranced by their movement she tries to pull one out.

Honestly if you are not ready to handle these remarks you are going to get from other people then maybe you should postpone getting locks.

Yeah but who are they to judge? They put chemicals in their hair that can eat an aluminum can. They wear cheap wigs that eats their edges. I don't take these peoples comments seriously since they put the health of their hair at risk to be accepted by modern society.

I think what shes inferring to is a lot of African Americans seem to judge people with dreads who aren't black, I am not saying all. I myself live in Florida and the only negative looks and comments I've gotten have been by people of color :/ And depending where you live a lot of the older people here are very conservative (at least in my town) and seem to think dreads are disgusting.

I hope this doesn't come off prejudice or anything, its just my view of what I've been through living in FL being half white with dreads.

What are you talking about? I live in Florida and my dreads are fine. Fuck what other people think, its your hair, your choice. Asking people if you would look good with them is kind of sad.
