how often do you wash your locks?

Dread Maintenance

I don't think it can be that generalized. I only wash mine every ten days or so and it never really gets oily, I just don't like my scalp to feel dirty. My husband's hair starts to look oily within 36 hours after a wash. We're both light skinned and freckled. I have red hair, both his sisters have red hair. We use the same shampoo.

Dread Maintenance Occurance - Honest Usage on this Site

Dread Maintenance

Hmm, well I worked them with a .75mm crochet hook, once, a year ago. Otherwise I just wash them. They rarely seem to need to be separated. They're locked pretty tight... just a little fuzziness.

perhaps some dandruff just doesnt go away???

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I recently read in one of Alice Walker's books that a beautiful woman (dreadlocked I think) discovered that the only thing that got rid of her and her husband's dandruff was olive oil. I love coconut oil, but it has never worked for true moisturizing the way that olive oil has worked for me.

If you want to try some sort of product all natural/organic food stores will have at least one tar based dandruff shampoo.

I would try the oil route first though and definitely chuck whatever shampoo you've been using.

I am addicted to tea! Are you?

General Talk

Mmmm... love tea.

Lapsang souchong, pu erh, genmaicha and mate are my favorites.

Though I like a good rooibos with vanilla and honey for desert :-)

moisturizing dreads

Dread Maintenance

Olive oil is a highly unstable oil, prone to rancidity. I would recommend something more stable like virgin coconut oil.

Ditto... I'm running, adblock, NoScript and firefox and it does take quite a long time to load.

Anyone else get the mysterious bleep sound every few minutes from this site? Never been able to figure out what's doing it, but I always know when I've left the site open because it eventually starts to make a beeping noise. LOL

I'm with Ziggy... I use both NoScript AND adblock on this site. There are just way too many scripts and graphics cluttering up the useful content areas, as well as slowing down loading times.

I order my aloe from MountainRoseHerbs.com

It's a good place to get essential oils, soaps, oils, herbs and tinctures as well.
