Rainbow Fortune's tnr/neglect timeline - 10 days update

Member Journals and Timelines

Since this is my third set, I am basically all set up and know a lot about what to do and what not to do, and what to expect. I decided to make a timeline this time round, so I would be able to come here and see my progress when I start having bad days.

Here's my hair before dreading. As you can see, it is extremely straight and silky naturally.

Here are the two dreads I kept from the previous set, they are 2 years and 2 months old now.

And here is my hair now. I did some tnr, but I basically half-assed it, since I know it will fall apart anyways, and I just wanted to give it some knots to start with, given that my hair is so soft and dreads slowly. It took me about 3 hours to do my whole head, or less. I am only keeping the front untangled for now, so I have something to look somewhat okay while the rest does the hot-mess thing it is bound to do for the next year or two.

I plan on updating this thread once a month, unless something big happens in the mean time, which it surely won't for the next 6 - 8 months. :) That's the benefit of dreading for the third time, by now I know exactly that will happen with my hair and don't expect to have a full head of mature dreads in a blink of an eye. :)

10 days update

I know I said that nothing will happen for months, but it did! For the first time ever (this is my third set) I have visible shrinkage! I was just getting ready to take my dog out for a walk when I looked at the mirror and saw this. I am beyond excited! :D And the funny thing is - that is not even the side I sleep on! :D

Here is a photo, ignore my exhausted face, I got up 35 hours ago... :)

Hi all!

General Talk

Well, instead of just ripping them apart as you are supposed to do, I used to try and make sure that all of the sections stay completely separated at the roots, near the scalp, and pull the hairs out instead of ripping them. So I was constantly creating new loose hairs and hindering the process. It wasn't until Baba Fats put on his video about separating that I had realized what I had been doing, but I was already over 13 months in...

Hi all!

General Talk

I have been here up until a year ago (almost to the date), had my dreadies for 14 months. Then I started doubting them, and since I had been separating them the wrong way from the beginning and really hindered their progress, I combed them out.

I have left two of them in, and they are progressing really nicely, they are over two years old now. :)

Now I'm thinking about dreading again. I mean, I am almost certain I will. The only thing keeping me from starting again is me being afraid I will change my mind again and have to comb them out. That was a VERY tiresome process and I would not like to go through that again. xD

Though I do have more going for me this time - I found a job that pays great and I work from home, so I don't have to worry about my appearance at job interviews.

Another thing that has happened since I combed my hair is that I have become a vegan. :)

That is about it. I am back here mainly to look at the photos and convince myself to do it again. You are welcome to do some convincing, too, if you'd like. :)

Animal Lover

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Our teeth are similar to those of a cow, we have small fangs to eat hard fruit like apples, but we would not be able to bite into an animal and eat it that way. Out jaw moves in a grinding motion which is characteristic for herbivores. We do not need animal protein, because animal protein makes our blood acidic. That could kill us very fast, so out body neutralizes it with fosfate, while calciul gets excreted through the urin. That causes osteoporosis.

And I do not understand the concept of humane slaughter. It is a oxymoron. Is there humane rape?

As for loving your dog and calling yourself an animal lover... If we love our mother but eat our neighbor who is of a different skin color, are we still people lovers?

Speciesism is basically the same as racism and sexism.

Everyone can eat what they want, but justifying eating meat with some false facts doesn't really work for me...

Animal Lover

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

It is a contradiction. And it is called speciesism. People like those usually hate hearing that someone ate a dog, but are okay with eating a cow or whatever animal is on the 'approved' menu.

This is going to sound cruel, but I find people who claim they love animals and eat them similar to people who claim they love someone and then go and beat the sh*t out of their 'beloved' one.

In a world where people are out of the food chain and have a mind that can think on a very high level, there is no justification for continuing the suffering of non-human animals. People who make excuses for countinuing to exploit non-human animals are either oblivious to the fact that killing an animal is murder and that animals are someone and not something, or they are just refusing to say that they don't give a f*ck about someone else's suffering. Good thing is, the ignorance can be helped. I actually had a friend go vegan recently because I sent her some videos and talked to her. She had her mind on going vegetarian, but after some discussion, she went full vegan. :)

Audra's TnR Timeline

Member Journals and Timelines

Just give them time, that's all they need.

And don't compare your own progress with other people's progress.

All of our dreads develop differently and at their own pace, even some on your head might mature sooner than others.

Some people have mature dreads in no-time, and some, like me, have stopped combing over 13 months ago, and don't have them yet.

They will be mature when they are ready to be so, it's all good. :D

Cut my dreads for a job. Now I have a job, and I want to grow them back again.

Dreading Methods

Well, regardless of the started method, they all have to go through the messy stage. But you can cover up with a tam or something.

If you want to use a starter method, use it, but use it only once. Repeating it only sets your progress back to day one.

And if you are twisting, don't retwist, as it can cause baldness.
