So I might shave my head.

General Talk

Think about it for at least a week. Take note on how it would make you feel at different times during the day. Some days it might feel like the best thing to do but at other times you might dislike the idea. I shaved my head for four years until I realized I really wanted hair but last year I let it grow for a few months then decided I needed to shave it off. That was a big mistake! I was so unhappy about having to start all over again. This is a big decision and I encourage you to think about it long and hard. You can always just do a light trim to see how you feel about the length and go from there. Taking small steps will help you avoid big mistakes.

all I do after I rinse my hair is pat it down. That seems pretty safe to me. Sister Rags said:
Ha, I dunno. I play around with my hair a lot, but probably too much finger-combing might undo locking hair.

That plan is going well. My hair is feeling a lot better since I'm not over washing it. I'm even doing the same wash cycle with my beard and it is feeling a lot softer. I still brush it though. Is finger combing still considered combing? Sister Rags said:
I will second the wash once/week, plain water rinse in between.

Thank you! This will be a fun journey. GreyGargoyle said:
I tried washing every other day but found that my hair liked to be washed only once a week. I'd said just wash it once a week. Do a water rinse every other day or something like that. I doubt that the shampoo is residue free. I just use baking soda. Welcome and good luck.

I stopped combing and got what I think is a residue free shampoo. I have had a lot of free time today so I have been twisting different sections of hair. I'm excited to see what this process is like and how long it will take for my hair to start forming into dreads. Would it be best to wash my hair every other day but rinse it every day?

Hello

Introduce Yourself

Hi I'm Mike. I'm a 31 year old artist living in Minnesota. For the past five years I have been shaving my head because I thought I was balding. It turns out I'm not even though my hairline is receding a little bit. I have decided to try out dreads. I always thought they look cool and would fit my personality well. Currently my hair is 2 1/2" long so I'm guessing I will have to let it grow a bit longer before I can start the process. My hair is pretty thick so maybe that will help things out. Dreads and a big beard is my desired look. I was influenced by looking at pictures of sadhus in India.

project brainwash- how some sites convince you made dreads are better then grown dreads

General Talk

I'm starting to feel very lucky. When I decided I really want dreads I posted a question on yahoo answers asking how it's done. One person said just get them, the second person said to use pomade and the third person told me some good information and gave a link to this site. Now I can do it the natural way and avoid all the gross products.

What is a Hippie?

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I see that the topic of labels is strong in this thread so I want to give my opinion about labels.I am a hippie. I am a racist. I have been responsible for genocide. I am a murderer. I am a thief. I am a junkie. I am a prophet. I am a tree-hugger. I am a lumberjack. I am a molester. I am an activist. I am a leader. I am a follower. I am a lover of animals. I am a hunter. I am a father. I am a mother. I am a child. I am a teacher. I am a student. We are all one person and when we label others we label ourselves.Labeling out of anger is not good to do. Labels have a tendency to be exclusive but we cannot get away from them completely. We need to use labels in a loving way. Every man is my brother. Every woman is my sister. Those are the only labels I need.
