Newbie :)

Introduce Yourself

Thank you! I saw your comment :) The only thing bad about them being curly are the ones that really curl up like a spiral .....because then If I am trying to tame them down a bit I have those that stick straight out at the sides :) I guess that gives them a little personality :) Sister Rags said:

Newbie :)

Introduce Yourself

Hey just thought I would stop by and introduce myself. My name is Lindsay. I recently started my second dready journey. The first was in July 2008 when I started using the backcomb method. I had no time to maintain them and they looked terrible. I combed them out and about two weeks ago started over using the twist and rip method. It has really worked out nicely. My husband also started his dread journey recently using the backcomb method.Thought I would stop and say "hey" if anyone has ?'s or would like to get to know more about me feel free to reply :)peace out

Tried Twist and Rip

Dreading Methods

May just depend on your hair? Mine is curly and gets knotted very easy so that may be why its working ok for me. My husband backcombed his and they seem to be falling out and he has been having me twist rip his ends but that doesnt stay in either... Sister Rags said:
I can't understand why, but twist & rip has not worked for me unless I put a bead on to hold the t&r. T&r Works just like back-combing does for me...I think the hair is "really" locked, but it doesn't stay locked.

Tried Twist and Rip

Dreading Methods

It is what it sounds like :) really simple you twist your hair (I did about three twists and then ripped) and then you take the end and pull it apart and that pulls up the knot and you just keep repeating the same process :) Jaquerian McCain said:
What are twist and rip? What exactly is that?

Tried Twist and Rip

Dreading Methods

I have twist ripped dreads and they are definitly the way to go compared to backcombing in my opinion:)

I think your hair looks great. If I were you I would just let your ends be. Eventually the will dread up as well and they will look much better getting their naturally :)

Baking Soda&Dr. Bronners

Dread Maintenance

I also dilute my dr bronners with a LOT of water and do not have the sticky feeling. :) Sister Rags said:
It seems like my hair reacts differently than almost everyone else's; I don't know what that's all about, except that it's kind of annoying to me.

Even so, I'll respond to your queries, Grey. I find Dr. B's works best for encouraging locking. I don;t notice that it leaves a residue on my hair...maybe because I do dilute it with A LOT of water...???

I like the baking soda/acv; I have, however, found that the baking soda tends to soften and straighten my hair. What I'm really confused about is the acv. I love using the stuff as a rinse, but others seem to find it conditioning. When I use acv, it seems to make my hair dry, not conditioned....acts like an astringent on my hair. In fact, I've been putting a few drops of hemp oil (or olive oil) into the acv rinse (and a lot of water) to soften my hair some.

I'm sorry because I don't think my info here is very helpful, but I guess I can back up your observance that baking soda does seem to soften my hair.

I am in a small town as well...as far as guns go, I've got em, haha.
But no one has said anything about my hair...

Although I do get that remark, "how old are you?" 20..."oh...you don't look it."
I never got that comment when I had a shaved head. =\

LOL. I have a lot of people ask why I am ruining my hair but they know what dreads are in SOME ways. I try to gently remind my hair is not ruined all hair would dread naturally if people would let it and I love it this way :)

That's a really fortunate situation, to be growing dreads together.
