Well I saw a recipe soaring eagle put up and I guess you could say I forgot he has super long dreads and his recipe called for a gallon. I probably should use less. Jake your recipe sounds super dank!

BS/ACV combining? residue in oils?

Dread Maintenance

My recipe

3 cups of water

3tbsp BS

25 drop of rosemary

15 teatree

10 lavender

5-8 patchouli

Now before everyone starts telling me I am using too many oils, I had to experiment with my wash for about two months to find a combination that did what I wanted it to and took away my itchies. This is what I came up with and MY dreads love it.

Dread Maintenance

I put mine in my bs wash mainly because I only use a acv rinse once a month or so, and i need my oils or my head gets super itchy and bothers my face even for some reason.

Hmmm sounds interesting....the ummm Tea tree oil mixed with lavender is kinda crazy, didn't see that coming lol.

Rinsing with cold cold water helps with dandruff, and I recently started adding patchouli oil to my BS wash (along with my tea tree, lavender, and rosemary oils) which I read helps with dandruff. Its pretty potent stuff (personally I love the smell of patchouli) and I have noticed a nice decrease in dandruff for myself.

I am in the process of getting dreadlocks. Why do I feel like a fake?

General Talk

Back when I still did mine I did more of a light spray, although I would let it dry a bit and spray it again making sure I hit everything all while not soaking it. Then I would wash like two hours later.

What a nice group of replies for my first post! Thank you so much for your encouragement and kind words.

I made two nice peyote sleeves today to put in my hair and they feel great. New beading technique too. I'd seen this type of beading at the markets etc and have seen it done on a loom but not in this style with the sewing needle. I'm enjoying them also because I made them :-) I enjoy making nice things, such as bags, hair ties, pencil cases and library bags.

My dreads are coming along nicely now with a salt water spray every now and then. Does it matter whether I drench them or will a light spray on the outside do?

Dread Maintenance

I try to do mine every 2-3 days because mine gets super itchy, but for the past month I have been so lazy and busy with work that I have been going pretty much a week at a time without washing. I really would like to get back to washing it more regularly
