Patience is a virtue

General Questions

My dreads are over a year old now, and started by TnR. I have very thick hair, but it's relatively straight. It took a good 5-6 months before anyone could even tell I had dreads. Any method you use, aside from actually MAKING your dreads, will only hinder the process. The way I describe it to people is this, when you try to make your hair do something it doesn't want to do, its going to undo everything you did, and start over. I don't even have the same sections as I did when I first started my dreads. Give it time. I know it sucks, but truly embrace your hair, and it's ability to make itself into something beautiful. I still wake up to bad hair days, but pay no attention to it Pay no attention to those people who give dirty looks This is something YOU want.... Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Your hair will be amazing, on it's own time. :) Good luck!

A tough week with dreadlocks

Introduce Yourself

I'm 11 months into my 3rd set of dreads. Why? Because I combed out my first two sets. I wasn't happy with them, but there were alot of factors that caused me to do it. I was worried how they looked, I couldn't remember to separate them so they started to congo, I couldn't stand the smell of baking soda(I was pregnant).... and believe it or not, I felt like my husband didn't think I was as pretty with dreadlocks. :( When I started my dreads almost a year ago, I was worried that I would get the "urge" again. I am happy to say that I haven't had it once over the last year. Even at a year, I have days when I hate they way they look, but I have to remind myself why I started dreading my hair in the first place; to let go of control. I am OCD and have been diagnosed with BPD, both interrupt my life on a regular basis. My dreads have taught me so much over this past year. Its not about how others look at you or think about you, it matters how you feel. I have been told that "You're trying to be black!", "You're a hippy!", and even been called a stoner, pot head, or just plain dirty. I know otherwise! My hair means more to me than nay of those people could ever know, so I just brush them off. :) I know you said you wouldn't but I hope you don't comb out your babies. Theres so much potential to learn and grow from them!

i dunno what to doo..

Dread Maintenance

I haven't ever tried the half and half mixture.. :( I would just suggest rinsing your hair really, REALLy well. The BS can leave a filmand cause your hair/scalp to get incredibly dry.

Just from looking at your pictures, It looks like you have beautiful hair. Just be patient. :)

living off grid, comfortably, full time.

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I can't help you with resources for cheap land, but I, myself have done alot of research on communes. I know several people who live on a commune up north. I've gotten many invites and insights into this life, yet, something keeps calling me there. Most people thatI tell this to think I'm nuts, as I do have two, son to be three, children. Most people can't understand why you would want to leave Babylon to go live in the middle of nowhere, with no power etc. But there is just something that is a part of someone of us, that those people will never understand. My husband wants to stay here in Babylon, which in turn is causing me to stay here. I can't tell you how many times I was so close to going and let him talk me out of it... and I've regretted it everytime.

I guess what I am tryin to say is, Follow your heart. Do what you want and what makes YOU happy. Don't live for anyone else. If you have this dream, live it, do it. It may fail, it may not, but then you don't have to live your life wondering "what if?'

I wish you the best of luck! Keep us updated!!! <3

Wrapping dreads.

General Questions

I just quick wrapped them. Not all of them, of course. I honestly didn't even think about he new growth being thicker. :|

I guess my main concern was, will they mold or mildew inside the wrapping after washing?

Wrapping dreads.

General Questions

If this is already in another discussion, I apologize. :|

Ok, So I know HOW to wrap my dreads but I'm wondering if its too early to do it? I'm about 3-4 months into all natural dreads and I have several I think would look awesome wrapped.

Also, what should I do about washing? Do I just leave the wrapped ones wrapped, or do I have to unwrap them when I wash? It seems like they wouldn't dry well if they were wrapped.

Thanks in advance, guys! <3

Tea tree oil and baking soda?

Dread Maintenance

it is dark browm, but not a dropper top. I looked at the ingredients and it is just tea tree oil. My mom is a pharmacist and its something she got from her work. I ended up rinsing my hair out with cold water again last night and it feels a little better today. Still doesn't feel normal. It almost feels sticky... :|

Tea tree oil and baking soda?

Dread Maintenance

I didn't measure it, honestly. It wasn't a whole lot, but it was probably more than a drop(which is what I've heard to use). It was 100% but it's very possible I used too much. Will it damage my dreads? If I rinse again will it come out?
