combing out dreads

Dread Maintenance

I am also interested in seeing dread out pictures or even just you telling us about it. At this point I feel like I will keep them in forever but I would just like to see if it is even possible to comb them out. :)

dreads comming loose and hair falling out

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I also t&r'ed and I have the exact same things going on. But like the others said..it's all normal and I just try not to worry about it. I have all kinds of loose hairs and if they are really terrible looking I just throw a bead on that dread for a couple of weeks and it usually does the trick.

how much money has this site saved you and how much would it have saved u if u found it sooner?

Dread Products

Found this site the day before my trip to a salon to "get" dreads. SE, you convinced me to call and cancel the appt. At first I was afraid to because I thought I wouldnt be able to do them on my own and have them look like I wanted them to look..but thankfully..I trusted you and cancled haha. Anyways..the lady was going to charge me atleast $200 (she was charging 50 an hour and said it'd take "around 4 hours")..plus then I would have had to tip her. Also I am sure she would have convinced me to buy some products from her as well..especially wax. So theres probably atleast $250-300 saved. I have boughten aloe vera gel for a few bucks..thinking I would use it to make my hair look neater but in the end I have never even used it. Overall.. this website was a lifesaver for me..I'm so glad I found you guys just in time and now I have dread babies that I made myself for free and with no products in them at all :) Thank you guys!!!

How did you start and what was the most effect?

Dreading Methods

I was going to backcomb but then SE told me about twist and rip..so I did that instead about 6 and a half weeks ago and so far I love them. They've come loose at the ends and at the top but the rest is very very knotted still and I don't think they will ever come out haha. If you'd rather not go natural..I would do twist and rip.

my go at twist and rip need some help on a few questions

Dreading Methods

Sounds normal to me. Mine are unraveled alot but as long as there is even one knot that stays in a lock.. it'll dread in time. Sort of like how SE got a lock started just by putting a bead into a strand of hair. Thats the way I see it anyways.

What if I work-out and swim a lot?

Dreading Methods

My dreads are 5 weeks old..did twist and rip and even though I have seen alot of people say that their t&r's came unravled..I get my hair wet in the shower everyday..and I use dr. b's shampoo every other day..mine are still knotted up very tightly. So like everyone said..don't worry about it at all.

How did people react when you told them that you were going dready?

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I didn't really tell anyone..My husband loved the idea and was happy (still is)..and my friend helped me do them..so she knew. But that was pretty much it. When I told my family they all were like "nooooo" But once I posted pictures on myspace for them and have talked to them on webcam they all love them..especially my mom. My brother still feels like I ruined my hair..but hes always been very picky about girls hair haha. But yea..best thing to do is just not tell anyone and all and just do it :)

One month in twist and rip dreadlocks

Member Journals and Timelines

Woohoo..I'm glad you guys think so! Sometimes I get worried because they are unraveling some..and my husband expressed some concern last night about them getting looser..I get jealous sometimes when I see backcombed dreads..they look so mature so fast! And yes SE, hubby does loovee them..and he can't wait until they are all locked up!
