Haha, oh dear...doesn't sound like the place I have always wanted to visit.
Yes, negative people will find any way they can to stigmatize..I agree! No matter what path we seek, there is always an a**hole to try to put a damper on things....These days, people are so vulger calling each other nasty names..it appears that the word Hippie is the least of worries...What I think is so funny is my children are growing into awesome/openminded individuals..They do not consider any labels on themselves or their friends at all but everyone in their classes knows me as the laid back "hippie" momma...I havent referred to myself in this manner...lol..but thats how the kids at their school percieves me...They percieve me in that way in a positive manner. Alot of times, they say they wish I was their mom because I am open and nonjudgemental....
I once went to a meeting with the principal and bigwigs at my daughters school due to her astonishing accomplishments...I suppose I had been looked down on by some of them over the years because they did not know me....I guess thinking I was a crazy druggy etc..(labels)..but then I said to them "wow! this all come from the genes of a "hippie" and they completely froze!..I actually believe they expected me to be a person that didnt give a care about my children's education...They had no choice but to recon with their prior beliefs...I am educated, I am an artist, I am a dependable & humane being...I teach my children likewise...And they need to see this is "the way life really is" outside of their pristine walls~This was just one instance I used the term "hippie" to open eyes...Again, you are right..People do stigmatize..
I am more for human equality I suppose than anything else...We are all unique and beautiful..And I just wanted it to be shared that a person can be a "hippie"(label) and show true character above the norm
Joshua Francis Maritz said:Hippie is word. I often find people just use it to stigmatize a certain type of person and it pisses me off to a certain extent, however it is often used in an affectionate way I suppose. So that's really what 'hippie' is to me. Just another word, you know like goth or emo. It's just putting people in groups and it's lame.
