hair loss with natural dreads

Dread Maintenance

I lose a ton of hair all the time. My son complains that it is on everything! Even though I am partially dreaded I still lose a lot of hair and yes, I pull it out of the bottom of my dreads too. When I shake my hair it falls out all over the counter in the bathroom. So don't feel bad! Even though a lot of my hair is knotted up, I still lose a lot of strands.

Will Curly Dreads Straighten Out?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Ha-Ha! I thought I was the only one with the wild "sidewinders"!!! Has got to be a curly haired thing!! I suppose as they get heavier they will eventually pull down, but I like them just like they are right now!

Will Curly Dreads Straighten Out?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I don't know Panterra. Some of my more mature dreads in the back are still curly. Not like sticking out curly, but they actually dreaded in a "zig-zag" pattern or like back and forth. They look kind of like sidewinder snakes! But, they do lay flat to my head. They are actually the coolest looking ones in my opinion!!! :)

feeling a bit discouraged :(

Dreading Methods

My dreads are all hidden in my poufy regular hair LOL! Except for maybe the back where it is really starting to tighten up. Other than that, my hair is curly and my dreads are kind of curly, so they all just blend in together. I still look like I just have really messy hair unless I draw attention to some by adding beads. Don't feel bad.

Dreading Methods

Don't get discouraged Heather. I have been at it for around 8 - 9 months now and I still have a LOT of undreaded hair. As course as my hair is, you would think it would knot up in a couple of days! Keep at it!!!

Well, I can appreciate and actually like your opinion Jack. But, at this point in my life, I am trying to look like I haven't been there and I haven't done that! :)

She is an absolute inspiration. I LOVE her gray dreads. However, my older son just came down to see what I was doing and said "why would you let your hair go gray? - you're not THAT old!!! LOL!!! He thinks it would be totally "wierd".

I'll give some hard thought to just letting it go gray. I really hate the coloring process now that my hair is longer and I hate taking the time to do it. Its messy and a pain. Maybe I will have to check out some people with gray locks and see if I can picture myself that way! But, no promises!!

Actually, Panterra was the one that suggested my coloring habits are contributing to my dryness, which I can understand. Sometime in the near future, I may just let it all go. I try just to color the roots up when they start graying, but then I lightly wash it down the rest of my hair just to make sure I don't start getting stripes. I would gladly use the conditioner after the coloring, but was under the impression that it would build up inside my locks eventually and cause damage. Any thoughts on that anyone????
