How to rip personality from your dreads

General Talk

Yes..the positive energy is the most important thing to keep flowing~~~ MiDread said:
Personally, I LIKE designer clothes (can't afford them), I LIKE nail polish (though, I don't ever wear it), I like certain hairstyles (tried a lot of them), If I could afford a sports car, I'd DRIVE ONE!!! LOL!!! Am I superficial???? Maybe! Does it make me a bad person???? Nope!!! Does it mean that I haven't matured as a person because I like fashion? At 42 years old, I don't think so. We don't all have to slop around in grungy outdated clothes to be true to ourselves (NOT saying that anybody here does LOL!!!!) Does it make me a "fake" person? I don't think so. But if somebody else thinks it does, do I care? No. To thine own self, be true. I have felt that this forum was very non-judgemental - one of the big reasons I joined after lurking for days. I hope you guys strive to keep it that way. ;)

How to rip personality from your dreads

General Talk

This was mainly a general statement for the post itself :) Nothing personal...I just wanted to share from a different perspective...I never mentioned the word "attacked" but I am sorry that you took offense to my words..not my style to harm anyone...There's no reason for any of us to be at each other so just let it be :) Again, I meant no harm to yourself or anyone..Love you guys! :) IllumiKnotty said:

Isn't it better to gently guide than ridicule? I mean no harm on here for anyone...I went both routes..Once in ignorance I believed I couldn't dread on my own without trying these products...didnt like em and ditched them..I am and have been a very spiritual person for the last 15 years...We cannot blame others for their ignorance..I didnt use the products to be a "poser" or anything of the sort..I used them because I was uneducated on dreadlocks...Again, I mean no harm..I have just had a walk on both sides of the fence and really...it's the inward person that counts not the exterior of the person...dreadlocks...permed...or bald..I'll respect each one for being part of creation...I would/do want the same in return :) IllumiKnotty said:
when i see fake ass looking "people" with the hippest clothes, the cleanest dreads -- yes i do judge them. who are they trying to fool? most people can see through that veil of fake superficiality. caught up in society's image. . .

when i see a genuine, natural person who shows to you that they are not their clothes, they are not their car, they are not their dreads -- but they are THEM. respect.

IVE BEEN THERe! I used to be a prep in high school. i cared about my tan, my fake blonde hair, my make up .. and then i "matured" and "grew up" spiritually and since i have shed my superficial ways.

some people are old souls, and some people are young souls, and some are in between. but we will all get there

To each his own...sounds fine :) I dont want wax in my hair nor the workout it causes which takes away for my reasonings to have dreads in the first place.....I guess some see them as a ?trend? ..Well...its alright..let them have their day in the sun...If they arent authenically wanting the dreads, they will remove them over a period of time...It's about individuality...and truly...everyone in this world is a seeker of some form or fashion...I try to concentrate on my inward balance as much as possible and let others flow how they choose..I am just so thankful I came on here to flow alongside of you all..Love you all!~

I believe the aloe vera is good...natural...and you can do this at home yourself...your hair will dread all on its own though..I am proof! My hair is very fine hair and was so fine I couldnt ever hold a curl or anything...Just some food for thought..Your hair will dread on its own..It is more of a journey than anything and your lock will have their "days" like we do...lol..I hope this helps reassure that your hair will lock up for you :)

Yep..I tried the wax last year after my hair was naturally locking up..it was a mess..yuk....natural is so much better :) Amethyst said:
Thanks for the welcome Sister! See my hair was SERIOUSLY unhealthy when I got them done, so I figured wax probably wasnt doing any real harm - other than preventing the matting process of course, which I am now well aware of! I plan on making my own products, spritzers and washes, so will avoid using wax as often as I have been. Im glad that so many people are talking about how bad wax can be - because I hate nothing more than giving them a good wax at night and waking up with a pillow stuck to my face! Will refrain from waxing in future and see if I can create some alternatives.
