Cut my dreads off...Oh no...missing them

General Talk

Well I had my dreads just over two years. Loved them. Yes I did. I also just cut them off. I will do this again in my future, having dreads.

But if there is anyone who is going to cut them...this is for you. I have also included a picture before and after.

My dreads were like down to my waist. I cut each to about 8". Thinking that this is were I would like to have my new length at. Dipped one by one into peanut oil (did not like using conditioner), massaged the oil into that dread, then took my time using a large sewing needle to pick/un-dread each...this took a good 30-60min each, depending on just how thick that dread was. Three days later I was done. I did have to have my dusghter un-dread about 4 that were in the back and I could not really get to. Then I went to a hairdresser to have my hair trim and style what I had left a bit.

My head was sore for about a day or two, felt bruised all over. Lost a ton of hair, my hair was pretty think, sooo the lose of hair really does not show on me. That will all grow back in too.

Soooo I am sad to see my dreads go, but I look forward to having them again in my life. Really enjoyed this site, everyone was sooo kind...now this momma has no dreads....peace out..enjoy your dreads :-)

Sooo I say hold your head up high and proud. The right job will come along. I got this job because of my confidence, skill level, personality, I am reliable, muture, etc....hair never even came up. Not an issue.

my 17 month dreads and I really enjoy having them

General Talk

My dreads are 17 months old now. I get lots of complments on them from all kinds of folks, young and older folks too. At work, in the stores or out at the farmers market. It has been great!! I did have my first the other day...I had a woman who did grab/touch my hair, she loved my dreads and said she JUST had to touch them. Before I could do or say anything she had her hands in my dreads. I heard of this happening to others on this site. It was my first...I did not care for it. It was a real turn off for me. I guess I am a pretty private person and felt that she was in my space when she did that...aggressive. Which I am not. So ...oh well I will move on with my dreads. peace out

middle-aged newbie dreadhead

Introduce Yourself

Well I am a couple of years older than you :-) I have really enjoyed having my dreads. I did start mine using the back combing method. Mine are now (actually today) 15 months old, long with some of them being wrapped with colored embroidery thread. I am employed at a Oral & Maxifacial surgeons office......I would say conservative. I am very accepted my my co-workers and patients. If you would like, take a look at my photos on my page. My son dreaded my hair, took a good full week to do, I have lots of hair and it is also thick. I now like the gray that is coming in on my temple area. I hope you are able to add some photos to your photo page. There is also a group that deals with "new ways to wear/style your dreads" on this site, surf for it and join.

Peace out from this momma has dreads :-)

General Talk

You have great dreads!! I did start a site called "different ways to wear your dreads" here on the site. Go there and you may find a look that you like. I also have different hair styles on my page..if you wish to take a look. It would be nice to see a picture of you in your prom dress and your beautiful dreads. Have a safe and nice evening.

This momma has dreads and loving it.
