Flat, Xtra Loopy dreads & 60-75% Loss of Length???

General Questions

mine done the same things, funny you have the uneven sides too... im almost at 11 mths and they are now dreads, some short sum long, sum round sum flat, (sum round and flat at differant points), sum with big lumps and or kinks sum with undreaded hair hanging out of them etc...so yeah over all they look like dreads now.... just kick back and let it happen, if they are not what you expect dreads to be for maybe the first year or 2, then that means they are doing what they are meant to...and by the way the uneven sides sorted its self in about 4 weeks or so...happy travels...

Mine are exactly the same (except I never crocheted)! And I'm in the high desert also.
I know they will round out because 3 in the back have already after being my crazy first loopers. I never rolled them or anything, it just happened. They're so short though. The right side is about at my chin, the left side still goes down to my shoulder.
I've also lost about 3/4 of my length, and some of mine are now too short to tie back, so I feel ya, I HATE having hair in my face.
I was considering asking this question soon, but I've not ever done any maintenance besides ripping so I may try some salt water or wearing a tam and see if that adds or modifies my progress. LOL we have the same hair.
I'm only at 4 and 1/2 months also so I'm not gonna sweat it till maybe the 9 month mark. I am curious when the length will come back though, because my hair only grows maybe a 1/4 inch a month, and it's all dreading up as it comes in right now so doesn't seem like it will add length as much as girth at first.

(my shortest one tri-folded itself, it was maybe 12 inches long and it's only at 3 inches right now. I'm hoping the shrinkage is almost over, like you are lol)

when will roots start to dread up?

Dread Maintenance

so my dreads are bout 8-9 mths old and lookin pretty tight and dready like, it seems that the shrinkage has stoped and i can see about an inch or so new growth at the roots... the root seem to be twisting up by them selves in the last mth or so but not knotting... is this normal? i dont want to root rub or any thing, just natural from here on, at what length will it start to do its thing? and is there any thing that may aid or hinder it?

Help, TnR or BC?

Dreading Methods

i agree totaly with knottysleeves. i back combed my self but didnt do the 50 billion combs per inch shit that is recommended. i sort of went for the half odd inch to an inch size sections as i have very fine hair and they are not thin dreads at all but nor are they *fatties* so depends on ya hair type i spose, and just how fat you want them... if you do go for the back combing meth, aim to get them tight enough to maintain sections when and if they *undo* and just let em do there thing from there(rip and wash regualy) theres some good advice on here for all lifestyles etc... so keep reading regualy.... a little advice... stay away from mirrors etc... for prob 6 mths or so coz there ARE going to do sum crazy shit that aint what you want....otherwise, happy travels...

one of my dreads fell off...can it be stitched on to another???

General Questions

yeah cool as man,. i think i read sumthing you wrote a while ago as to why you done it( my condolences), but only twiged the memory then... sounds like it could be a bit more "naturalish" than the qrochet meth so i might give that ago as my ends are like 3 to 6 inches long on the ones that id want to attach it to any ways... so if you could mayby explain mash them in a little more depth that would be appretiated...cheers Alden said:
I attached my brothers old dreads onto the ends of mine on my first set, I did it by combing out the tip of my dread, then combing out the 'root' of his dread, then I kinda mashed 'em together and crocheted a tiny tiny bit, then wrapped the joint in embroidery thread and left it for a few months, the natural dreading process made sure that they attached and I never had a single one come undone.

one of my dreads fell off...can it be stitched on to another???

General Questions

im thinking a variaty of things. number1... back combed... 2 my climbing helmet that i wear like 10 hrs a day and also the fact that i have very fine hair... i have thougholy examind the rest of them and that was the only one that was fucked up, so all good i spose. and the hair that broke away from it has grown significantlt so i can let it go and make a new one...naturaly...the question wasnt so much to do with it falling off(coz i dont much give a fuck) but more as to if and how i can put it to use else where...and maybe even how some one else could put someone elses to use...(if they are into that kinda thing)...eg extentions etc... yeah, cool thanx m8, will do Maxe said:
I guess you could crochet it back on or onto another dread, but the joint will still be weak and might break off again. Try find some youtube vids of girls crocheting on extensions - stupid idea but will give you the impression of what I mean.
