I got my hair back combed and permed without knowing better, and I used some knottyboy gel stuff but no wax. I found this site and stopped with the products and let the dreads do their thing. They have been quite healthy ever since. I'm sooo glad they didn't perm my hair to death!
to dread or not to dread?

dont get a dread perm, youll have really dry crusty hair lol. its really damaging. i got one and i think i got lucky and it was light but ive heard of peoples dreads breaking off after perming they were so damaged.i would recommend a healthier method like twist and rip, a lot of people are going with that method and i think it looks great! and isnt so damaging like backcombing or perming.
