Should I bother?

General Talk

Nothing is something in as much as something is nothing. Nothing to do but something, too bad all the something I have is nothing. Maybe I should go somewhere -- I hear nowhere is nice this time of year. I think I'll take no one, because that no one certainly is someone and is from anywhere but here.

Reasons to cut your dreads.

General Talk

Me too Lonnie, other than that I can't think of any reason to cut them off. It'll be two years since I quit conditioning and combing in March and I can't imagine cutting them now that I'm out of the awkward phases. I hate to say I'll never cut them but I can't picture myself without the rope factory on my head.Lonnie Berg said:
I think that if I felt by cutting my dreads that it would help someone signifcantly in some way that I'd most likely do it, after all helping others is more important than hair.

FAQ

General Talk

A lot of people tell me I have really nice dreads but then say something like; too bad you can't wash them... Then I have to explain that dreads are as clean or cleaner than "normal" hair. I've also found that a lot of people think my hair is braided or that I had to have braided it and left the braids in until they,"turned into locks". When my hair wasn't locked up a lot of people thought my curls were dreadlocks, just goes to show how clueless some people are about dreads.

True enough, I've around 115. If you want tiny locks you just have to make sure you rip often and know that your hair will take longer to mature the skinner your dreads are. Have fun letting your hair lock and be ready to let your hair get worse before it gets better.Iain said:
lol that was like me in 10th grade, oh the memories >.<
anyways you could just start yours now, but it'd be nearly impossible to have ones close to his, your curly hair helps alot and you can have over 100,
D i think it was has very curly hair to and his are pretty thin to,

His length varies, sides are longer. front is pretty short, wouldn't even have to be at shoulder length,

Question about neglect method

Introduce Yourself

Don't worry about where your hair parts just keep your hair clean and let it knot. Then rip your hair in sections as it starts locking so you don't end up with a mono-dread.

Finaly got dreads done!

General Talk

So I looked at your pics and your hair looks a lot like mine when I used to still comb my hair. I suspect they put some kind ultra hold gel or hair glue in your hair. Just start washing your hair with a shampoo that is residue free and your hair will start lockng on it's own in no time. No need to comb it out just make sure you keep your hair clean and you'll be well on your way. You can't make dreads in a day so just throw away your comb and enjoy the trip.

How many dreads do you have ?

General Questions

Thanks I'm going to try and keep them all from combining so I plan on keeping them around the 110 to 115 mark. Is your last name May? If so we share that and having dreads in common.

I just counted 113 but i could be off by one or two. At one point I had closer to 200 locks but as I've let my hair lock up over the last 22 months I let my skinniest dreads combine.

Trimming the ends?

Dread Maintenance

Hey S.E. I have a question for you: I have really curly hair and about 95% ( probably a 100 or more of my locks) of my dreads have naturally blunted tips, should I worry about trapping moisture in them as they get older and longer? Should I try to "un-blunt" them? I really don't want to do anything to them since they're natural but everyone seems to says its bad for your locks to have blunted ends.soaringeagle said:
90% of mine are still like that ..thank god!
10% blunted on theyre own.. those ones hold water in the ends forever..
when the rest of the dreads are just barely damp the blunted tips are so soaked u can squeeze water out of them

when your hairs wet it soaks downwards lbeing drawn out the ends loose ends it drips out easily, but bluntred it pools in the tips which then take up to 3 times longer to dry

when theyre long that will mean days longer..if u surf daily your gonna get moldy

dont ever let anyone ,make you feel likje you need to fix your dreads or do anything to improve them..
theryre perfect as is

besides shouldnt dreading be a step away from vanity instead of being a slave to it?
