if you are going to cut them and you want to save some hair, cut them shorter, and then cut UP the middle of whats left of the lock and pick the hair out of the center... but if you dont care about that, then i would just cut where the root is loose with scissors..

I wouldn't neceessarily use aloe vera GEL, as it's kinda processed sometimes.. I would go to your local nursery and buy an aloe vera plant and gut out all the meat and juice inside the leaves, blend em, strain out the solid stuff with some cheesecloth or something, and then soak your hair in the leftover water.. THIS is the BEST way I have EVER found to suck up little frizzys.. but if all else fails, and you cant get aloe, and you (hopefully) decide against wax.. then jsut wear a tam!!! ~*~

washing your dreads with natural soap (like Dr. Bronners) and hot water will lock them faster.. just keep your hair messed up.. do the washing your hair motion on your undreaded hair and keep it tangled.. I would just leave it alone and keep your little knots separated.. it will happen faster than you think. just stop thinking about and worrying about your hair.. that's the whole point!!

HAHA! one time i put a couple dreads in underneath so that when i put my hair up in a pony tail you could see them.. and i used toothpaste for a couple haha... they came out in a few days.. most definitely lmao.. i forgot about that until you said you put honey in your hair.. Jessica said:

as long as people are asking, i think it's best that we answer their questions with positivity and love.. just confirm that you know who bob marley is, and yes, he had dreads.. but anyone iof any color from any section of the world would have dreads if they just stopped brushing their hair. I usually say something along the lines that it usually signifies a deeper connection to the natural Earth and the roots that come with living a natural life.as far as your mom is concerned.. sit down and have a talk with her and tell her if she is going to explain your choices to her friends, at least let it be accurate! break it down for her to explain it in laments terms to them!.. just tell her that you are an Earthy person and that this is your way to express your connection to your natural roots...

i would just get some wooden tapers and start very small.. gauging takes time.. it should never bleed or rip.. it should be a very gradual process.. my ears are at 00's now and I just used spiral tapers the whole time.. have some patience and take your time!!.. dont jump up too fast!! you will regret it later..
