Newbie, Dreaded Beard

Introduce Yourself

I've got the same hair type, thick curly Italian hair. Grew my beard for about 4 months and I started noticing it dreading in about 2.5 mo's. I was constantly twisting it though. It'll prob dread on it's own if it's super thick. Had to shave for a job but growing it again soon. Post some pix brotha!.

Caucasian by the way. thick and fairly curly italian hair though, especially the beard. I haven't done any combing at all. In fact all I've really done is twist up some hairs along the neck border to see spacing. Basically, just patience and let it grow out naturally? The point of doing TnR would be to.. make it appear like dreadlocks quicker?

Thanks for the quick replies guys and I'll definitely get some pics up after the dreads form.

dreads or dream job

Introduce Yourself

Yeah the snow sucked this year. We're actually getting 6" tonight. I work at Micasa if you're ever in town. But prolly goin to Florida for the summer and be back next season. andrew harder said:
ya i was at key when i got hurt haha. ive got friends that work at several of the resorts around there... i like summit but the snow was pretty bad this season. i had a pass and rode 34 days even tho i'm skoolin in nebraska. i wouldnt cut them for any regular job at a ski resort. but this is high cascade snowboard camp. i feel like it'd be an optimal "in" for the mt hood/govy scene. i've been down there the last few summers and its prolly the toughest local scene to get into (without bein a liftie or something haha).

Whats up man? Sounds just like my story. I'm in Breckenridge now and broke my ankle about 5 weeks ago. Sucks. So now I'm looking for a job in the travel industry and will most likely have to cut my dreads. It was harder than I thought it would be to find a job in Breck because of the hair. If you work for one of the resorts you'll prob have to cut them, but there are places that will hire with dreads, it's just getting alot harder. Vail resorts wont hire anyone with dreads at all? I would'nt cut them for the snowboard job -you'll find one that'll be cool with it, but if I got offered a travel job, I would cut them. Where is the snowboard camp?

Dreadlocks and Bob Marley and Rasta

History and Religious Significance

Who doesn't love Bob Marley? Take it as a compliment.

Fiend Jester said:
I can't stand it either. My dad used to call me "Rasta" a while ago, but he soon realized that it was annoying. I also hate when some ghetto kids say "Yo, you like Lil Wayne junior". All I can really say "Nah, not really"Also, today I was wearing my Jimi Hendrix shirt and 2 Bob Marley related things happened.Someone at a career fair today went up to me and asked "Where did you get that Hendrix shirt?" I replied "I got this from the Spencers in the local mall" So, she said "Thanks, my son wanted one of those shirts. Isn't that the store where they sell Bob Marley shirts?" I didn't want to be rude and go IM NOT A RASTAFARIAN OKAY so all I said was "Hmm.. I think they have a few."Then later, one of my classmates said to me "Nice shirt, it would look better if Bob Marley was on it." He knows I joke around with the fact that I have dreads so I said back "Haha, I don't think so. That would mean I'd be wearing a shirt with a picture of myself on it."It used to bother me, but now I just shrug it off or turn it into a joke.

Just venting cuz I have no one else to talk to...

General Talk

Things will get better. I'm going through a bunch of crap too. The place I work at got sold and the old owner left the country and didn't pay the entire staffs wages. New people bought the place, but I lost my salary and health insurance, but kept a job bartending. My apartment i rent is now in foreclosure so I have about 2 weeks to find a new place. My computer busted and my car has been breaking down. I was caught up in the Orlando shooting last week so that was a bad day too. But things could be worse. We still have it pretty good in this country compared to so many others. Things will eventually turn around, they have to. Be positive and hopefully it'll all work out for the better. That keeps me going and so many people are going through the same shit. When it rains, it pours.

Halloween costume ideas?

General Questions

Thanks for all the ideas. Great ones for next year. My laptop just busted but I'll post some photos when I can. Thank again.

Or.....Father time, wear a long dark robe, and either an hour glass, or large watch or clock on a rope around neck, like a necklace, and you can make your dreads white with baking powder, it'll rinse out easy, won't harm your dreads, and you can be sure it will wash out completly with a baking soda wash!!

Halloween costume ideas?

General Questions

I'm a bartender at a very busy bar and have to dress up Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for halloweeen. Any ideas with the dreads? It has to be a costume I can move around in and not too hot since i'm in Florida and it's gonna be in the 80s all weekend, so I can't wear make up or a mask.
