OMG! I cut one of my (in the process) dread!!

Dread Maintenance

I totally did that too. I had a wrap in my hair and I went to get it out and ended up taking off a couple of inches off one baby dread. So my advice is, dont put stuff in your hair you need to cut out, orrrr get someone else you trust to cut it out for you :DIn the meantime, totally rock the little dread, it gives you individuality :D

Something I am very curious about. Has anyone who is white/hispanic/asian anything other than black had issues with black people over their dreads?

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I havent had anyone of a different race comment on my hair, but I have had white people say things to the effect of "What are you trying to be black?" or called me rasta mom. I'm ashamed to say it, but I do live in a predominantly white neighborhood, no I've never had an encounter with anyone of a different race about my hair.

Mold Paranoia

Dread Maintenance

I remember a while back I thought I might've had some mold or mildew. and Someone on this site (sorry I dont remember who) recommended that I make a tea out of some thyme and pour it on my hair. And that's what I did

Lush shampoo bars?

Introduce Yourself

I just found the ingredients for the squeaky green bar. I unfortunately purchased that one aswell. The first ingredient is SLS there's some other garbage in there too I wouldnt want on my skin. Such as benzyl benzoate. That stuff is kinda nasty too, here's what it's used forBenzyl Benzoate is used for the synthesis of drugs (especially for antispasmodic drugs as a scabicides and to treat pediculosis). Benzyl benzoate finds application in fragrance. It is used in pre-fixing agent. Benzyl benzoate itself is not an active fragrance ingredient. It improves the stability and odor characteristics of the main ingredients. It is used as a miticide and in food field. It is also used as a plasticizer for polymers and cellulose.I will never understand how something can be in plastic, a fragrance, and antispasmodic drugs. Those things have nothing in common. Well I guess except for benzl benzoate.Different benzoates are also found in toilet bowl cleaners.

Lush shampoo bars?

Introduce Yourself

I actually got a lush shampoo bar thinking I was doing a good thing, but the SLS was like the first ingredient. a good website is http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ they have a rating out of ten of ALOT of different products. 10 being completely hazardous. And my godiva lush shampoo bar was a 5.

Soap Making??

Dread Products

On their website, it says you can use the peppermint kind to brush your teeth with! I havent tried it, I have the almond one right now I cant wait to run out of it, so I can try a different one! And I think I will do some googling about Dr Bronner! Sister Rags said:
Hey, no problem on your praise of Br. B's. The stuff is amazing and I've never found anything that holds a candle to it. It's inexpensive, there's a wonderful variety of scents now, they include hemp oil in the soap now...I just wish I could brush my teeth w/ it 'cause I;d use it for that, too.

The most important thing to remember with regard to Br. B's is to dilute it with water. I had been diluting about 6 parts water/1 part soap, but I think SE says 12/1 and I'm finding that works fine.

Fortunately, I have easy access to a number of suppliers for Dr. B's around here, but I do believe that if you order $20 or more from their site, shipping is free.

By the way, if you have the chance, read the history of Emmanuel Bronner. It's incredible.

Soap Making??

Dread Products

awesome advice guys!I have experience dealing with chemicals and bad things (like E.Coli) We used to use such stuff at school. I was taking Environmental technology except I dropped out to start a family. But anyways, dont worry I wont blind myself LoLAlso the other day, I finally found a local supplier for Dr Bronners. I love it!!!! Cleans EVERYTHING including the toilet better than any chemical can. So far I've used it as a house cleaner and a hand soap. I'm going to try it as a shampoo once I run out of my shampoo now. Also I got Dr Bronners Baby bar soap, and it works really really well on my daughter. She has really sensitive skin and gets eczema and since using it she hasnt broken out in it at all.Sorry about the little ad there for Dr B's LoL but I've been raving about the stuff to anyone that will listen, and some that wont LoL
