Sleep? Can I have some please?

General Talk

look for an item in the vitamin aisle called meletonin, its a chemical your body naturally produces in the evening that makes your mind ready for sleep. the meletonin you buy is ussually in a form that you would dissolve under your tongue right as you lay down to sleep, like a thin strip or a minty pellet. Also try valarian root, it is a herb you can get in pill form at healthfood stores.Chamomile tea is a good item to include in your bedtime rituals.Lavender essential oil in a diffuser can help you relax.Lastly if you a willing and able to have a computer running near your bed, search "theta wave" and fractal in google video. Theta is the state you brain waves are in during meditation and during that fuzzy stage just prior to falling asleep. Certain binaural sounds have been shown to induce these brain frequencies. The videos you'll find are beautiful and super relaxing. All these options should help you sleep without laying you out cold or causing you to feel groggy the next day.hope this helps :)

Musty Smelling Hair

Dread Maintenance

hey i'm canadian too! :) I almost always blowdry, esp now that there's snow on the ground... too cold to sit around with damp hair for long !! I use lavender oil in my dreads, i've read that something about the oil actually will kill whatever it is that causes the mustiness and will prevent mildew. what i ussually do is dilute it in jojoba oil and rub it into my dreads and scalp and leave in for maybe an hour before washing it out. once every couple weeks or so i do this. well I've been going up to my loved ones and being like "hey, smell my hair" LoL and everyone says it smells like hair or teatree oil. I cant smell the weirdness anymore, I could only smell it when they were wet after I washed em. Does that happen with mildew?

ways to go green in your home/life

General Talk

Changing the topic away from the biohazardous (gross, bleh) waste products...Don't buy products in plastic, or with excessive packaging. I usually consider when buying things how many times i may be able to reuse the packaging. Theres nothing wrong with packing leftovers in old pickle jars. I reuse glass juice bottles for all kinds of stuff. And any jar that has a pressure seal built into the lid can be used safely for canning. Sometimes things are funky and can have creative purposes too. Some kinds of dry goods come in beautiful burlap sacs that make awesome purses.

Starting Dreads: Non-residue Shampoo

General Questions

I've also heard of dreadheads using baby shampoo, but you know, i think any shampoo that says 'clarifying' is res free, i know neutrogena makes a clarifying shampoo thats pretty easy to find

baking soda dreadlock Wash Rave!!

Dread Maintenance

After trying I strongly reccomend Jess Gergely said:
i've been contemplating this. i trust everyone here completely on everything they say about this. but, i'm a scaredy cat when it comes to trying new things. after reading about how her scalp was so itchy, i definitely think the next time i go out, i'll have to get me some baking soda & do it myself. my scalp has been itchy & oily, & i have a small problem with dandruff.

seeing as how this has worked for so many people, i'm strongly considering it. i'm so glad i came to this site. i thought it was just me with the itchy scalp, because aerek's doesn't itch at allllllll. but, thankfully i know i'm not now. :)

thanks!!! i'll do this experiment as soon as i get everything for it! <3

Member Journals and Timelines

what i understand interlocking to be is using a small loop to pull the entire dread throught the loose section of hair at the scalp, then repeating at different angle but always moving the angle in the same direction... is that what you meant? i've been doing that a bit... but i think i'll just rub them instead.... interlocking makes mine look kinda skinny and weak at the rootsnow about these dread journals... where do i find? sounds interesting
