buy dreadlocks? now i've heard everything

General Talk

I would buy dreads from someone rather than making the extensions but I never had that option. Reason being, that they are already mature. I now have teenage dreads (my real ones) and loose baby dreads attached to them, its a little weird. But I am a little weird :P

General Talk

Call me a wanker if you like but I bought a weft of human hair and have been making dreadlocks to extend the real ones i already have. Didnt do it so much as to be a fashion statement, just wanted to be able to tie my dreads back and not have them poking me in the eyes 24/7

the truth about crocheting dreadlocks

Dread Maintenance

if i do my maths based on your assupmptions, then between 5 - 10 hairs would get broken with the two hooks that i have used, but this is assuming that i break every hair that my hook touches so a 100% breakage chance. Hmmm I do infact doubt that it would be that much.

the truth about crocheting dreadlocks

Dread Maintenance

This is the largest crochet hook i have used on my dreads. It is a 1.0mm hook. I have put a standard tape measure (inches shown) there for you to see just how small the hook is.To put a crochet hook (the size se has shown) is just bloody ridiculous. If anyone used something that big for their dreads then they deserve to have shithouse dreads!

the truth about crocheting dreadlocks

Dread Maintenance

Unfortunately, for many different reasons, some people are not able to go "the natural route" on their dreadlock journey and maintenance is required.People who crochet or sew in their loose hairs should not be frowned upon. Sure crocheting can be a little damaging - but its not that bad and there are alternatives to the good ole crochet hook.perhaps this forum could try to stop jamming the natural method down people's throats and maybe provide alternative suggestions for maintenance.Since joining this forum, I have noticed that not many people dont have the courage to get up and say - 'hey, i tried this way and for me it worked'. Are you all too scared to come out and tell it like it is?I know that deep down most people would jump at the chance to go natural, but it isnt always viable. And you still want to express who you are so you have to compromise a little and use different methods. And this whole forum needs to start looking at a new word too - "compromise". This forum is called dreadlock forums. Perhaps, this place needs a major overhaul and become a natural dreadlock forum, because lets face it - that is what it is all based on.

Help please...

General Talk

i started with 74 - i now have 65 and that is with the same set. From what i hear it is normal for the number of dreads to vary. But I wanted thinner dreads so that is why i have a larger number. but some people have well over 100 and some people only have 28 - it is all personal preference.

with dreads, is it length or girth that matters, or does size not matter at all?

General Questions

I think looking at the dreadlocks is only part of the package, we are all unique and so are our dreadlocks. It really depends on what the person looks like and how they present their personality that makes their dreadlocks that little bit more special. Like your dreads se, they suit you completely but if you put my face and body under your dreads - they would just look wrong! Thats how i feel anyway.
