Dreadfully purple?

Help! Save My Dreads

Alright so ive had bleach blonde dreads for about 4 months and decided I wanted to go to a burgundy/brown color. got a box of dye and my dreads came out this dark, but very bright...purple. While Im not entirely opposed to this, I do need to dye it a nuetral color for my wedding in a month. Just wondering ehat the safest way to go say, medium brown without frying my hair would be?I dont think the dye damaged my hair too much, but its kinda hard to tell. Overall my dreads feel softer but more matted. I cant tell if they loosened up or if they are just suckin in surrounding hairs. Plus my hair is/was on the thinner side so having such dark hair makes my scalp show more than desired. With the wedding being in a month, i only have like 1 shot to get the right color. Any tips would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

the spirituality of dreading (regardless of religion or lack of)

History and Religious Significance

I find it hard to explain the spiritual aspect of dreading to strangers because I find that I am very much sharing an extremely personal journey. I feel if I share this aspect with non-dreads I am opening myself up to unwanted ridicule for my lifestyle choices. Even though spirituality is mostly the reason, I usually say something like "to remind myself not to judge people based on outward appearances" statement. Dreading takes a special kind of person and I'm not always apt to give away our secrets in a judgmental society. You have to earn the right to hear my opinions. Might sound kind of snobbish, but too many people (IMO) tend to do something just because they think it's cool. Show me you're spiritual and I'll share my secrets. Make sense?Lindsay said:
I agree with all of this. :) Its hard for me to explain to people that dreads are not all about "hair style" a lot dont realize there is something very spiritual about having dreadlocks :)

Mature dreads--What's your routine?

Dread Maintenance

Alright, so now that I've passed the crucial 1 year phase, I've been thinking more about how to keep these babies smellin and feelin their best. So...what's everybody's routine to keep their dreads nice and healthy?

I wash about every 3 days or so with dreadhead shampoo (I know, but I bought the damn thing when I started and STILL haven't run out.) that I've added some tea tree oil to. About once every month I"ll do a BS ACV wash and rinse to get them feelin extraaaa clean. >_< After I lightened my hair I noticed my dreads felt pretty damn dry so I rubbed some Vitamin E oil in them. (Don't know if that's good or bad, but it seemed to make them feel better and it's the only thing I could think of at the time. Eh, live and learn right? lol)

Anyone else?

I plan on having these babes a really long time so I'm interested to hear what everyone else does to keep their dreads healthy after years of dreading. Oh, I'm also interested to hear if anyone has any "Dude, don't do this, LOOK what happened" type stories.

Peace & Namaste :)

Makes sense. I thought about them being heavy and all as they get longer but I really like looooong dreads. :D I'm worried about them getting too thin at the top as they grow though, so who knows! Maybe in the future I'll trim too!Bene said:

there isnt any particular reason, i simply like change so every now and then i cut them short

plus if they are too long they get kind of anoying and are always in the way

i usually cut them in spring to have short dreads in summer and then i let them gorw through the wohole year in order to have long dreads in winter to keep my head warm.

and thats the circle of life of my dreads :)

dreadlock formal or wedding styling tips for african or caucasian dreads

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Ooo! I really like that 3rd pic! Do you know where it came from so I can take a look at other views of it?

I am officially enlisting your help everyone...Our wedding is going to be August 27th and I have yet to find a hairstyle. I remember seeing this absolutely stunning pic of a girl who wrapped white ribbon around every one of her dreads and then did a beautiful updo. Unfortunately, I have NO idea what happened to the pic I had of it. I've spent hours searching random keywords. Anybody know what I'm talkin about? Any help would be much appreciated :)

Dreads with peroxide

To the best of my knowledge, lemon juice is the only natural way to lighten dreads. Henna only makes them darker or red.
