Interlocking?

Dread Maintenance

I just sent him the link to the site and told him he may want to join and learn some new things.

Interlocking?

Dread Maintenance

Which is the main reason I started. NO MAINTENANCE. no junk or tools. I'm never letting anyone touch my babies again. I just hope they recover well.

They won't fall out. I've had mine for 6 years and the only ones I'm worried about are the ones I palm rolled. The interlocked ones are ok.
Is he high maintenance to begin with? When you try and maintain locks you're missing out on the entire point of having locks. They are the easiest hair style to care for and completely take care of themselves

Dread Maintenance

Actually, once he was done.. I looked at his and they all looked fine except for the back of his head... there was what looked like 2 rows of what used to be dreads now very short curly hair... I wonder now if it was caused from excessive maintenance.

carefully with help try to determine where it was fed through and feed it back through if u cant do it wothout causing more harm dont but couldnt u look at his roots and tell it was bad? werent they 1/105th the thickness of the dread werent they surrounded by bald scalp?

Dread Maintenance

I did get to the front and actually found where he fed them thru but I can't get to them all myself. I'm hoping if I just leave them be they will be okay... I'm sooo nervous my dreads will fall out.

Interlocking is actually extremely destructive. If you can flip them back through the same place he did, do it. If you can't find where it was flipped through, trying to undo it will cause more problems.

What interlocking does is twists your hair around itself. It doesn't create knots. It just twines it up. This takes away any elasticity where it was flipped. It weakens your locksconsiderably. If you only do it that one time, it won't cause permanent damage that is obvious. I have a few that I interlocked once and they are ok now.

It does tend to create a general braided pattern in your locks, though. Eventually it'll get covered up by loose and frizzy hairs, but it'll always have a strange feel when you touch it.

There's no reason to try and "tighten" your roots. They are still younger locks. As they really mature you'll see less and less straight hair at the roots. Fully mature locks have only about 1/4 inch of straight hair

Dread Maintenance

See and I'm more so mad at myself for letting someone touch my hair. I've been on this site since I started my dreads and know that really no maintenance is need to dread your hair. This is the first and only time I've allowed anything to be done to them since my 4th month or so. I don't palm roll, root rub, crochet, etc.. I just let my hair do its thing and its been working for me just fine. but he seems to think that you need to maintain them EVERYDAY by doing the following. We argued for a minute about his lack of knowledge but swore he knew what he was talking about since he's had his dreads for 5 years +

soaring eagle said:

worse thing u can do interlocking is notoriosly bsad it creates weak spots thins the roots causes traction alopecia (if done overand ovsr) and balding u neverever ever wabnt to force the roots to be too tight

u have only a day otr 2 to =safely undo that if not then hope for the best but never let that guy nrar u and tell him how badly he screwed u interlocking used to be called root flipping till it becak[me commi9n knowledge it mades them break off so salons changed the name instead of stopping the process

even dhhq recomends not to interlock (altho on the site he recomends it calling it crocheting the idiot dont know what he recomends and doesnt)

Dread Maintenance

Okay so I'm into my 8th month of my dreading process and I've already been through the loopy stages but now I'm more so having issues with alot of loose hair.. I don't really mind it much as I love the messy look but one of my fellow dreadheads has brought something to my attention that I don't really know too much about maybe some of you can explain.. interlocking. He actually went at 'tightened' my dreads up for the other night(got rid of the random hairs) it looks fine now but I'm kinda nervous as to how they are going to turn out later down the road. All he did was take the end of my dread and stick it through the base of it until it was tight...
