Me tooooo! I've been dreading for a year now and they like, regressed since summer ended (no more ocean water, no more sun) so bandannas are my best friends.

Give the dreadies a chance! A bunch of my friends hated mine when I first started. They all got over it, (or at least stopped trying to change my mind,) and some of them even like them now! And I don't even notice the looks from strangers anymore. You'll get through this, and feel so much better once you do! We're all here for support :]
Haha "dreadmares!" I've definitely had nightmares like that before, can't remember anything specifically at the moment. If I'm not mistaken, teeth-falling-out-dreams are supposed to mean one is worried about his/her appearance. Maybe it's the same idea for the dread dreams? Cuz for me I feel like they mean I'm obsessing/worrying about them too much. It all depends on one's view on dreams in general I suppose. <3
Truly amazing responses, loving this thread.
I wanted dreadlocks for a while; I always thought they were beautiful and anti-fashion. (I wrote this in my intro post so sorry for repeating but...) Basically, I was a junkie. I started locking my hair when I got clean. My dreadlocks and I need time and love to grow. They help me replace fear with love and acceptance. They mean so much to me.
Don't worry, everyone on here is super nice! :P I've only been dreading for 8 months or so and I have a bunch of loose hair too. I think your dreadlettes look wonderful! If your hair is naturally straight and fine it might take a little bit longer than someone with thick, curly hair. Sea salt helps the lockage. (And I've read on here that baking soda and apple cider vinegar washes are all the rage.) Just give it time!
Hey Christina thanks for the reply! Yeah I live in typical suburbia on Long Island, about a half hour from the city. It's pretty crowded. Completely different than upstate NY with mountains and farms and stuff. NY is weird haha.
Thanks Eagle! Aww :] Yes they pretty much are. Sometimes they're the only thing that keeps me straight. I want to keep them pure.
Whaaaaat's up everyone? I'm new here also so I figured I'd post one of these introductory things. So my name is Nicole, I'm 20, and I live in New York. I play violin and viola. I love music and coffee and cigarettes and simple things.
Once upon a time I made some bad life choices. I stopped killing myself slowly last October. In November, I started the locking process. My dreadlocks are like an extension of myself. As they grow and mature, as will I.
All of you dreadies on this forum have helped me learn how to treat my hair, keep dreads clean without harmful products, and how to love them for who they are.
I love my messy, ego-deflating, loopy, beautiful, crazy, natural dreads!
I don't have a lot of friends on here yet, so if you're reading this, gimme a shout!
Much love <3
Whenever people are rude about my crazy head I just tell them "My dreads are for me, not for you."
Agreed with previous posts! I used to try re-combing cuz I thought they were falling out and they'd never dread. (I was misinformed.) I realize now it totally slowed the process cuz all it does is break and rip the hair instead of letting it sorta weave together naturally. My hair is just starting to lock up now at 7ish months! They go through cycles. They get loose then tight then loose then tight then loose then tight....
