Help bald spot

Dreading Methods

It's the sectioning that causes that bald spot - the hair has been forced into sections that would not have occurred naturally. Let them go totally free from this point on now without ANY MAINTENANCE and in time hair should start to cover the scalp. Or well if you dare comb out some and let them freeform around that area in natural sections. Either way, patience is the key.

2 Questions : Moroccan oil , T&R method, scrunchy loops

General Questions

Be aware that unless you use PURE argan oil that hairproducts that are sold as "Moroccan oil" mostly contains silicones (and a tiny amount of the good oils...cheap marketing tricks) - which will NOT wash out without sulfates like SLS and so it may cause build up.

Help me save my baby locs before it's too late

Help! Save My Dreads

Hey!

I suggest you stop using any products, for example the "Jamaican Mango & Lime No more itch gro spray" list these ingredients: "Deionized Water , Mineral Oil , Olive Oil (Olea Europaea Oil) , glycerin , Polyquaternium 32 , propylene glycol , Diazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , fragrance" and those are stuffs I wouldn't want to put in my hair - especially if you wash with a schampoo that is SLS-free you WON'T be able to get the mineral oil out of your hair.

This also holds true for the Carrot-spray - mineral oil :3

As SE suggests it's probably better to start over with CLEAN hair free from any products! With your hairtype freeform dreads will be totally wild and awesome:)

Bs/ACV Wash.

Introduce Yourself

Hey! I'd suggest you cut down on the amount of BS that you use - I usually use just 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda and it does the job.

There has been a few times when I've noticed I haven't rinsed the BS out properly - it feels dirty and abit...gucky. So when you think you are done rinsing - rinse some more!

Good luck!:)

EDIT: Right, noticed here that your ratios are the ones recommended here aswell: http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/baking-soda-and-sea-salt-ratios so that shouldn't really cause that much trouble. Have you used any other products in your hair that could leave a residue?

Dyeing Dreads with Hibiscus Tea

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I've tried to rinse my dreads with hibiscus and rosehip tea just to see if it would make any difference and well, I wouldn't want to leave it in the hair tbh without rinsing. I've noticed that if I let it dry with the tea still in the dreads the ends are like glued together so not sure I would just want to let it sit there without properly rinsing. However I imagine that it gives the hair a nice shine but not much difference in the colour.

If you want some more red tones in your hair why not just do another henna? Henna will build up in colour but it can't make it lighter so for example on dark brown hair it won't go copper - but will give it more red shades and reflects. Make a strand test if possible tho before you go ahead:)

Henna Dye

General Questions

I dye my dreads with henna (16 months going with neglect). It's a time consuming process and you will need ALOT of patience both during application of the paste onto your dreads and while rinsing it out in the shower.

Henna makes my dreads feel very soft after a treatment but not loose (which even if it did I wouldn't really care about it...) but everyones hair is different and henna MIGHT prolong the dreadingprocess for YOU.

On a personal note, I can't wait for my gray hairs, I think dreads with gray hairs looks stunning!

Hair elastic alternatives?

Dread Accessories

A cheap way to gain some hairbands that I use is to cut old socks into bands and a good way to recycle socks with holes in them anyways...

Thinking of starting over

Help! Save My Dreads

I made a quick comparison from my own journey, the right one is 6 months and left is from 15 months, don't really have good pictures of my journey so these is kinda what I found to give you an idea of how it can end up with thin hair and thin dreads:

Thinking of starting over

Help! Save My Dreads

Save them :) I've been in the same situation and I aswell started out with short and thin hair but it will get better!

However I did something that might be seen as forbidden: I untangled the tips. I simply took a really small crochethook and untangled hair for hair and now I have wispy ends. For me, it was for the better - the blunted ends took really long to dry and during wintertime here I didn't want to go around with damp hair all day long.

However if you wish to do this be very careful . Only untangle the tips, not the dreads themselves that have grown out. I've kept every single dread and none have been tampered with except the tips. Your hair still looks pretty short so if you really, really can't stand the ends you might want to wait a while for the dreads to grow out abit more. I'd only advice this for anyone that is feeling that it's either this or remove them completely.

Thanks Mons, that made me smile. And I'm trying not to let it bother me, but I'm not the best at that.
And Kelly, I have the karma! It smells wonderful, but I guess I don't know how to use it, cause whenever I do it just makes my hair feel like I put hair gel in it. Is that what it's supposed to do? Cause I would think that would hinder dreading rather than help, it's kinda why I only use it when I want my hair to look less fly away and frizzy.
