Takin it to the streets

General Talk

Yes! I've been thinking of something like this for a loooong time. If something like this is actually made, I'd hang it everywhere.

I've always heard that sections should be one inch or so.

This is why I am thankful for Dreadlockssite!

General Talk

Eh, this isn'tactuallytragicallyhumorous, but since it pertains toinfoonline this seemed the best category.

I saw this on tumblr: http://intheflowersss.tumblr.com/post/36114076956/do-you-have-any-tips-on-dreading-hair-naturally-my

I was like ''NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO". I went to the person asking the questions blog and gave her the link to this site and told her I thought it would be helpful to her. I hope she comes!

But wow, I am so thankful for this website. Even people giving advice theybelieveto be helpful arecontributingto the spread of misinformation. It makes me kinda sad :/ It's not a huge deal, many people choose to quit washing their hair. But, why would you give someone with naturally silky hair advice to quit washing?! Urg!

How could you not mention that their use of wax and the fact that it is most likely still in their hair isprobablycontributing to the problem!?

I watched the girl who answered the question video on dreads a while back. Something she said really made me mind-blown. Not quoting but, she said "I alreadyhadn'tbrushedmy hair in a few years so I figured dreads would be better than having a big nest..." and then she explains how she back-combed! She basically had dreads and didn't even know :/

Just... Thank you to this whole community. Thank you for covering all the information that anyone could ever want to know. Thank you for being honest. Thank you for being so detailed and in-depth in your explanations. Thank you for being so quick to answer questions. THANK YOU for breaking the chain for misinformation.

Had the talk with my grandma... Dread talk that is... Again lol

General Talk

Reminds me of my great-grandma. Once, a while back, she asked me how old I was and I answered her honestly:10.She asked me again a fewminutes later and I said9. A few minutes later she asks again and I tell her11.This goes on for a while with me changing my age every time she asks xD not the nicest thing to, looking back on it, but it was amusing at the time.

She also had a habit of calling my step-mom, whose name is Brandee, Carrie (the name of my birth-mother). It was awkward.

She lived to the age of 100 :)

remembering your hair before dreads

General Talk

Yes, totally. Look at these 3 different pictures of me:

Crazy, huh? I can't even explain how much I can change in a year! It's like looking at a different person. When I remember stuff sometimes it's likerememberingthe story of someone else. I know everything has made me who I am today, but I feel so detached from past events, when I was a different person than who I am now.

I've never been more ready to lock up my hair.

Dreading Methods

The dreaducation page or the FAQ can probably answer all the questions you may have.Yeah, the least harmful method is natural. Just throw out your brush :)Twist&Rip comes in second for the least harmful. It's a starter method and leaves your hair looking like dreads from the beginning. It usually falls out/loosens though, so the dreaded appearance may not stay for long.Wash your hair with a non-residue shampoo or the baking soda/ACV rinse no matter how you start though. Separate your dreads when needed. That's all they require.Your hair may take a long time to knot for a number of reasons. If that's just the way your hair is, then that's the way it is. Natural/neglect method may take longer for you, but I think it's worth it :)

General Questions

Yes! :) his dreads are 100% natural. Listen to the guy in the video, he's saying that he did nothing at all.I think wavy & thick hair should dread faster than thin straight hair, but that's not true for everyone. Dreads are unique for everyone, how they look, how fast they form, etc/

The Path of Truth

General Talk

I'm on my first set but I feel the same as you. I hope I have my dreads forever.

My dad had dreads before I was born. He had them for 6 years and cut them off for a job, which he quit later anyway. He wants them still but says he's "worked to hard for my step-moms family to except him". Its true though, they used to just deny the fact that my mom&dad were together! When they finally got married her family was mad, but afterwards really warmed up to my dad. Everyone's cool now, and my dad doesn't want to mess it up. I say fuck them! Uhem, excuse my language. But yeah! If people can't except you for who you are, what good are they?

My dad wanted to die with dreads. He told me that some strictRastafarians will end up with one big congo because they don'tbelievein touching their hair. My dad thought that was cool and said he pictured himself that way when he was an old man. I'm so sad for my dad's dreads :/

At least you're regrowing your's, thanks for being yourself. People just beingthemselvesmakes for a beautiful world.

Help! Questions needed answered xD

Dread Maintenance

A hair dryer can be used. From what I know you should keep it moving around to not focus all the heat in one place, and not do it for excessive amounts of time. You can use the 'cool' button -if your dryer has one- if you don't like to use heat on your hair.

You can sit in front of a fan, but I imagine that would be colder! Or in front of a fire if you get the chance.

I wash my as early in the day as possible so it has time to air dry. I just stay indoors when it's wet.

Yeah you can wear your tam most of the time (but not when your hair is wet!). I've known people that dreaded in tams the whole time.

White stuff in my locks... HELP!

Introduce Yourself

This is useful to know!

Donna Martin said:

This may sound nuts to some but a VINEGAR bath will loosen all of the bits that cling and then embed in your Dreads. about twice a year I take a gallon of high quality, organic Cider Vinegar and soak my Dreads then wrap them (I use a large shower cap} for 30 minutes or so then rinse thoroughly and wash as usual. never have a smell and all of the follicles, skin, oddities, my Dreads have gathered are gone. the vinegar somehow unglues, for a better term, all of them. Hope this helps.
