Dreadlocks Shampoo Bars - Too Conditioning?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

hmmm yeaa I'm with se on this one, maybe you're not getting enough protein, but I would assume you did a good amount of research before becoming vegan. If not definitely make sure you're getting enough of everything, I took a nutrition class, just an intro one, and I learnt a lot but I'm no expert. I do like the vicki bars, though my scalp is drying up a bit, mostly due to the heater, or at least that's my hypothesis. Maybe try going back to acv and bs, if you think that was working better. Good luck man, and have a good new year and hope your dreads start gaining strength

New and Restarting!

Introduce Yourself

Haha well welcome to the neglect/natural bunch. At the end we all just love dreads, though I personally think natural is always the way to go and this site has made me a bit bias, plus trying to keep it natural means for our entire body not only the hair haha. And I'm sure the majority of ppl spend a couple weeks lurking in this site before starting... i probably spend a couple weeks, took a year off and then came back and lurked a couple more weeks reading through a lot of the dreaducation and knowledge filled discussion and well its worth the time. Happy dreading!

Nice smelling hair

Introduce Yourself

I would recommend Dragons blood, which is a a bit strong when you first smell it but it isn't as strong for those around you. And it's one of my favorite. Another one that I really like is Patchouli, which is somewhat described as a 'hippy' smell, but I personally think it smells awesome and it is a bit more subtle and more plant/ground smell like. Happy dreading man!

Considering wax or something to help my dreads..

Dread Maintenance

Definitely try the bar shampoo. Lots of people say they see a step up on the progress. Somebody did a wax experiment, its gross she cut it and you can see all the residue, she washed it and did all these different things and the wax was still in the dread. I'm 14-15 months in and only the back of my head has some solid dreads, but its been slow for me aswell. Just be patient man, I think you really get to see a big difference in most timelines when ppl are closing into their second year of neglect dreads. Compare some of your pics before you started and now, you'll see a difference. Good luck man. And don't worry about what ppl say, brush it off... pun intended

Help me get my mind stright.

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I don't have much of a recommendation, but rather just telling you to embrace it. If people are telling you that your decision of getting dreads isn't awesome or that's childish, or gross or whatever dumb thing ppl who don't have much knowledge about dreads say.

I am 14-15 months in and my hair has always been curly so I thought I would do fast progress but it hasn't really been fast. I had some three decent dreads which came on the back of my head and that was about it for the first 6 months. Now I have a bit more but it has been a slow ride. A lot of ppl tell me to put lemon juice, to twist them, use WAX, and straight out to not grow dreads or to buzz my head. I know a lot of it is done due to personal opinions or ignorance towards the hairstyle itself. But I don't think it matters regardless. If somebody you care for tells you this things you can explain the process and some of the history behind dreads, that you actually wash it and don't use chemicals damaging to your scalp, show them that you had a thoughtful process behind your decision of getting dreads.

And lastly I want to say that you have the support of everyone here, or I would think most of us haha, to keep on the journey. There is nothing too lose and we want to truly see you succeed. I am truly inspired and happy whenever I see a timeline post from anybody here, especially those who take us with them through their journey and see their first day pic to the two year+ anniversary. We do have each other a forum of others with the same taste towards dreadlocks, with different backgrounds and what not. And I promise you, that you'll be in my prayers tonight!

Hope you continue in this awesome, slow, yet beautiful journey. Best of luck!

Should I get dreads when I'm in the hospitality industry? DOES IT MATTER?!

dready interests

I agree with Mujtaba. If someone does not hire you because of your dreads, which can be definitely kept in a professional looking manner (there's many professionals in this forum), then it shows a lack of professionalism from their part. How good of a job you can do does not reflect on the way you look. I don't know much about Malaysia, and I'm speaking from a more American point of view, although I am originally from Peru.

My hair is pretty messy, because I'm doing natural dreads, but whenever I go to an interview or something, as much as I hate it I dress up in my best clothing, sometimes even put on ties depending on the place. What matters is the first impression and then sweet talking them into thinking you are the right candidate. If they question your hair/dreads which they probably shouldn't, you should still be prepared and have your reason, religious, spiritual, part of who you are, etc. and explain how there's lots of misconceptions on dreads being dirty and that you like teaching others a bit as to show your initiative and passion for what you do and believe in.

Good luck and hope you do some care-free dreadding!

Flour still in dreads... suggestions?

Dread Maintenance

Well after two weeks of taking part on a crud war which had flour, I still have flour on my dreads. I have some decently mature dreads and some not as mature, but my issue is that the flour got wet right after and it got all doughy and dried up. At first I tried a couple different things, but after being unable to completely getting it out, I thought it would just eventually fall off. But I was wrong, the back of my head was the main target of the flour and it is also the part of my head with the most mature dreads, and I also cannot really look at it. But today i was standing in front of the mirror and noticed one of the side front dreads had a bit of flour (noticeably on the outside) but as i tried to get it out i realized it was not only on a superficial level it was all in it as well, not an awful lot but a decent amount. So I'm sure those dreads in the back definitely have more in my back dreads.

I just wanted out because my grandmother said that if I don't then it would eventually become little larvae which truly freaks me out. I really don't want to cut my hair, I've grown it for 3 years and started my neglect dreads 14 or 15 months ago.

I also think this is an important issue that we should address as I feel like it could happen to anybody or if we want to do a color run or something similar and it gets wet it would be a similar situation. I am open to any suggestion and willing to try different things so in the future others might have a reference to go to.

Thank You, and if you have any ideas please post them!

EDIT: Also I have been considering combing them out, but wouldn't know how to do it or if it is recommendable. If I were to what should i use so i don't rip half my hair out haha, I would just restart my neglect way, thanks again

How to get flour off dreads?

Dread Maintenance

I appreciate you asking, and well it's still there, I've started to take it off manually but everytime I think I'm close to been done I find another dread covered and even the flour crawling into them. It is all dried up and it really is like clay. and some of them have dried and it is noticeable size like 2mm and they have caught multiple hairs. I'm going to try washing with baking soda and ACV, and if that's no good I'll try the Dawn dish soap, and if that's no good I'm open to any other suggestions haha. Maybe I'll try the knot rot from vicki's if neither works
