General Talk

I think your dreads look great!!!! They're a nice shape and they look long :) I have had a lot of people that I see often, like regular customers where I work, suddenly go "Oh wow you got dreads!" and I'm just like well I've HAD them...but people can be really unobservant. I've had people say that they didn't know I had dreads cause they just thought it looked messy, and I've seen dreadheads that made me double glance cause I didn't realize either! And because your bangs are undreaded, it's probably what people notice first and their brain fills in the rest with what they normally see.

But yeah I think they look really beautiful and just give it time you'll get comments as time goes on! :)

"real" meaning of dreads/king solomon?/negative encounters

General Questions

That answers some questions but not really the whole picture about King Solomon, I guess I'll check out google! I'm glad that it was a civil conversation too, I freeze up when people get aggressive with me ! I agree with everyone about people's own beliefs! Thanks everyone for your input.

"real" meaning of dreads/king solomon?/negative encounters

General Questions

Today as I was entering a store the man coming in behind me asked about my hair. I said I'd had them for 5 months. He asked me why I had them, I said because I loved them. Then he asked if I knew what dreadlocks meant. I said "what they mean to me?"and he said "no, what they actually mean", then he started asking if I knew anything about King Solomon, which I don't. After THAT he demanded to know my ethnicity even though I'm clearly white, when he realized I was 100% white he shook his head and walked away, saying "people don't like that!"

To me dreadlocks don't have a set meaning, their meaning is personal to whoever has them. But clearly they have a set meaning to other people, so I was wondering a) if anyone knows anything about Solomon, and b) if anyone has had to deal with interrogations like that before. This was my first time ever having a negative experience about my dreads, even though it wasn't that negative, I made sure to keep on smilin.

skinny at the roots with big flat sections in the middle?

General Questions

Lol no it was the same length as the rest of my hair! Yeah from the front I still carry the longer haired look. I just looked at yours, you've made great progress. They seem a lot thicker than mine though. I'll try spraying the front of my hair with sea salt tonight!

Valrie said:

Yeah, mine started at mid-chest length and all of my shrinkage so far has been to my chin (yet there are still a lot that are slow on progressing, keeping my hair looking longer.
I just saw your timeline update and that dreadie (your first 1) got so incredibly short! Was your hair layered or shorter at that section?

Ah good I'm glad to know I'm not alone! My hair started off a little bit above my waist, and my hair (except for the very front sections) is shoulder length. It started shrinking A LOT at four months, I fear more shrinkage is to come! So you may experience that. I guess we just have to stick with it! Thanks for the reassurance :)

Some of mine are doing EXACTLY what you are describing. I am at 3 and a half months (about 99 days-ish?)
My hair started off shorter than yours so I don't have quite as many loops in the middle but yes, they are thinner at the roots, loopy at mid-strand, and then straight at the tips. There are a couple that have gone a little bit past this "stage" and the loops have compacted a bit and the tips have sort of blunted themselves leaving a couple whispy-bits at the end... but still thin at the root. I also have some loose sections.

You are not alone in this hair description. I started mine TnR and you are pure neglect yet are hair has a lot in common so I think this is a "normal" avenue in the progression to mature dreadlocks. :)

skinny at the roots with big flat sections in the middle?

General Questions

The majority of my dreads look like this:

That is the same dread, as you can see it has lots of loops, but it's just so wide and flat. Most of my baby dreads are skinny till the middle, then they'll look wide and flat and loopy like in that picture, then with some sort of wispy end. You can see the skinny part in the shadow of the second picture. A couple of my dreads are skinny all the way down and just the end will have the flat part, like a beaver tail. Probably about 75% of my hair looks like that, with the other 15% just not dreading at all and the last 10% being more rounded but still pretty kinky. I'm at day 161 right now.

I haven't seen any pictures of forming dreads that do what my hair is doing....I guess I just need some reassurance that they'll mature into normal looking dreads.

Tame frizz for PROM on Friday?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Ah cool thanks! I was reading stuff about putting the aloe in a blender and then straining it and it sounded like way too much work for me haha. Aloe + water sounds good to me! And convenient, I have two aloe plants in my front yard. Thanks :)

Tame frizz for PROM on Friday?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Hey, my neglect hair is at 2 months 1 week, and I'm planning on just wearing it down at prom. However, my hair does have a lot of frizziness and I was wondering if there was something I could do...use conditioner carefully for just one wash? I remember reading something about aloe that seemed complicated...Any help is appreciated! I was planning on washing my hair the night before that way it'd be nice and clean, I meant to pay attention to whether my hair was more frizzy after I washed but I honestly can't remember. Anyway, any ideas?

This was the most recent picture taken of my hair, if it helps, which was 6 days ago:
