How much longer do i have to wait?

General Questions

I had some nice twist and rip dreads before and used to go to this site alot, but i ended up catching lice at this moving company i worked at and had to shave them off. It's been a few months since then and my hair has grown to about an inch and a half or so since then, so im just wondering does any one know approximately how long hair needs to be before itll start to dread? its started to tangle a little bit but not enough to stay (doing them natural this time around). Can anyone tell me this so i know about how much longer ill need to wait to have my locs back?

encouraging congos

General Questions

haha i did put them together with a bead. theyre two congos im trying to make each with several dreads. but they just dont want to combine.i get that theyre all different, i just dont get why these two groups dont wanna congo for some reason lol

i guess thats just it though. didnt think there was anything mroe i could do or nothin, jsut thought maybe someone might know if flat dreads take longer to congo or somethin

ok so ive successfully encouraged several congos but ive got two that ive been trying to for months and have had little to no progress. the both have a flat dread in them that im trying to congo with round ones, do flat ones just not congo as quick? im just wondering why these are taking so much longer. maybe because theyre more in the back theyre more mature or something? anyone have any insight on this. i know any dreads can congo over time, just wondering why these are taking forever

yeah i know i been wanting some patchouli real bad. i know you can get essential oils at head shops, maybe i shoudl check there.

I would add EOs to your wash. I've been adding them for years to coco butter and lotions as an option to chemical laden things. Tea Tree is good for flakes and as a antibacterial for your scalp, plus it has a powerful tingle that feels like you just stuck your head outside in the winter.

Citrus oils are good for clensing as well, but you have to be super dooper careful with them- they can be very irritateing to the skin.

Patchouli is a natural bug repelant- so in the summer it might be a good idea to ward off gnats and mosquitos...

thanks for all the tips guys. i tried the glycerin soap before i saw this, made them a little sticky while they were wet but it was different when they dried. also i still used the vinegar rinse cause i heard that helps remove residue, and it really seemed to, they didnt feel sticky at all after i rinsed em. also this contained almond oil so it gave them this healthy shine. i think ill stick with the baking soda and use the glycerin soap every other time or so

turns out i actually found somethin on bing and i was wonderin if there was any truth to this or if its just a myth. is glycerine soap residue free?

I was wondering, exactly what ingredients in soaps and shampoos are the ones that leave residues?

I tried binging it (yes i use bing now instead of google, tried it a few months back and loved it, its way better if you ask me, i got more results most of the time, and when its not more, theyre more of what i was looking for) and i couldnt find anything. does anyone know?

would also be interested in learning how to make my own soap for them if anyone knows that as well. i already use various teas along with baking soda and acv rinse but i think it would be fun to make a scented soap thats residue free.

man i know how you feel. everyone tells me i need to cut em off for a job. i dont think i need to though. they look pretty presentable tied back. about the first one, thats a horrible story haha, glad i dont drink thatd be so terrible. i dont mind the attention of being "that guy with dreads" myself. i consider them part of who i am now

I just about cried hearin bout this. i mean its great that they tuaght you so much, but i dont think i could have chopped mine off even in that scenario, it woulda made me want to keep them more haha. i cant picture myself without them. and if i ever did have to cut them off for any reason, i would immediately begin growing them back. part of me wants to cause i wanna start off completely natural, but the way theyve formed such a personality, all the loops and zig zags and bumps and everything, i just cant let them go
