First splitting of dread today. Ouch!

Dread Maintenance

I've kinda let my dreads do their thang on their own. I separated, but left a few, just to see what they did. Well, I had one section that was way too big for my liking. I split it this morning after my wash. Yowza that hurts! And it was hard to do. What should I do now? Should I wrap one of the halves? Just make sure it stays separated?

Hit me with dandruff remedies....

Dread Products

I was using a bar and had no problems. I wash about every 3-4 days. I also got the new accelorator Vicki makes. Since that wouldn't really be sprayed on my scalp that should be okay to use, right? I haven't used it yet. And I do like a super hot shower. I'll try to use cooler water.

Hit me with dandruff remedies....

Dread Products

Sorry, I'm mobile and can't search :/. I seem to remember tea tree oil, but I'm not sure. I have a goddess shampoo bar and liquid nag champa. I just started using the liquid. Wonder if my hair/scalp is just getting used to it? I'm about 6ish months in. Thanks in advance!

Opinions on Birth Control Pills?

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I went off of the pill BC and tried Natural Family Planning (NFP). With NFP you chart your cycles, observe changes in cervical mucus, and check your basal body temp so you know when you are ovulating and either don't have sex around that time or use a barrier method. The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" is a very thorough book on it. It's also helpful to know your cycles, so getting pregnant is easier when you want to because you know your body and when you ovulate.Right now i have a paragard iud which does not have hormones. I have an iud now because my husband won't use a condom and we do not want another child yet. I check the string every month and have had no problems with it.

!! TAKING THE PLUNGE !!

General Talk

Hi, I'm a woman doing neglect and wouldn't have it any other way. If you want "maintained" dreads, you're kind of out of luck. Dreads are wild, beautiful, and free <3.In my understanding, TnR comes undone anyway and mainly helps with sectioning. Sectioning will naturally occur with neglect as would be best with your hair anyway.Part of my dreading journey is learning to let go a little (or a lot some days. Haha), have patience and trust the process.I hope you find the path best for you.

How old were you when you started your dreads?

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I started at 26, halfway through last year. Mine help remind me that life, everything, is a process. One bad day or moment simply cannot make everything suck, because there is so much more to it than that. They help me be patient, and i have never felt more fully aware of who i am than right now. I can let some things go and embrace other things fully. It is super cool :)
