Fat beads

Dread Accessories

I have actually tryed this already. It works very well the only problem is as they get quite large the clay gets very heavy, enough that u can feel them dragging u down. I used them for the first year, think I still have 1 or 2 that fit the thin ones but about 3 years in they have grown a lot lol. And the wooden ones are only 30c each lol so no real loss if I lose them. Tho if the clay works for u go for it a $5 block of clay makes roughly 10-20 beads depending

Fat beads

Dread Accessories

My dreads are rather fat and large. Most people have a minimum of say 30 ish locks and are considered large or fat, I have a total of 13 or 14 so they are typically huge. My question is has any 1 else with fat locks had problems finding beads? I only ask because I have recently found a place to get some with holes up to 2cm or 20 mm, and don't know if it would be worth selling them. Thanks again

Been awhile

Introduce Yourself

Its been awhile since i posted here i think my last post would have been around 3-5 months. Its been a long some times trying journey but iv made it to 1.5 years. They have matured allot since then, the kinks and lumps have rounded out, and allot of the loose hair has been eaten or formed a new mini dread. I started with 13 fatties and allot of loose hair, counting the baby's i think id be at around 19 dreads now. Iv never done any maintenance other than separating and bs/acv deep clean once a week. I have a feeling that living so close to the beach u could taste and sometimes see the salt in the air helped them mature allot, hopefully will only be another 6 months until fully mature. Neglect takes allot of patience but the results are worth it, none of this uniform perfect dreads, instead wild loopy bumpy uncontrollable unique dreads iv yet to see any 1 around with just 1 dread with am much character as mine. Neglect is well worth it if u have the patience to outlive the birds nest on your head. Here's a few pics from other the months.

Palm rolling- useless?

Dread Maintenance

In the begining i palmrolled almost every day some times twice a day. THEn to be honest i just got lazy and stoped and realy i havnt noticed any diffrence except the rounding effect it has can be usefull as u said on a flat dread after sleeping but other than that i find it compleatly useless.

hi

Introduce Yourself

Yea i noticed the increas in dry time that flat 1 can stay wet alll day if i dont go outside after washing. thay all got about 1/3 shorter during back combing includeing that 1 but then it folded and halved again thats why i was concerned thanks for clearing that up. Just wondering sinc u got fatties u might no where to get some beads that fit haha iv looked and looked with no luck at the point now iv gota make some.

I'm one of those people who's got 12-14 locks. Ok, they do dry super slow. I squeeze all the water out for a good 5 minutes in the shower after I wash. I then use a towel and squeeze even more out (in the 5 seconds it takes to step out of the shower, more water seeps to the surface). I then blow dry for 5 minutes. They'll still be damp for 6 or so hours. I have to hit them with a blow drier 3-4 times if it's too cold to let them air dry outside.

2. I have definitely noticed a slowing down of hair growth since I congo'd them to be this big. Before the could grow 3 inches a year (That's really fats for me). When they were thinner, they'd grow 6 inches a year. Now that I combined them, they slowed down to about 2-3 inches again.

Enough about me. You will usually lose about 1/3 to 1/2 of your original length. That one that folded over is perfectly natural. It will probably eventually round itself out. They do that as you sleep on them and compress them every which way. I'd just let that one go. The others will probably follow soon in their own way.

The most important thing for fat locks is protecting them from congos. Every few days just pull them apart. Mine are not as big as my wrists yet, but the sections are probably large enough to be once they grow out a little more.

If you've got any questions on how to take care of fatties like those, message me. I'll be glad to help
