General Talk

My husband was the same way. In the beginning it was constant he'd say things about them being messy and dirty (messy sure dirty never) how he would cut them all off when I was sleeping if I didn't brush them out and that I wasn't nearly as attractive anymore. He never said any of it in a joking manner and the things he said hurt me very much, but I stayed strong and defiant. I am now 6 months along in my journey and the comments have pretty much stopped, once in a while he'll make an off hand remark but it's not nearly as bad as it was and I get complements from strangers now and then which helps show him that they are looking very nice at their age (he is impatient and wanted me to have perfect mature locks overnight). Anyways I feel like I'm rambaling now, just stay strong and happy and soon the comments will end. Blessings

My husband wants to use wax!

Dread Maintenance

First off I think it's really great that you and your husband are dreading together. Second, as mentioned above, he really does need to do his own research esecially since he wont listen to what you have found. I almost went the Knotty Boy route and then I found this site and saw all the pics and discussions by people whose hair was destroyed by it. Thankfully because of all the info and support here I went the natural route. that was 6 months ago and my locks are amazing. Messy is normal and rouge hairs are just part of the process, they'll find their way into a lock when it's time. Unfortunalty some do have to learn the hard way and he may not heed your warnings or the warnings on this site. If that's the case it's probably best to let him do what he wants instead of beating a dead horse, although I hope it doesn't come to that for him. Good luck with convincing and educating and Blessings on your journey

Let's Get Personal

General Talk

I have always liked the way they looked, but my reasoning for dreading were more emotional and spiritual than anything else. For me it was like a (extremely long overdue)dedication to myself as a witch,a way to connect with nature on a deeper level, to enhance my intuition, show my freedom. I started going though a lot of changes prior to starting my journey and dreading was another stepping stone for me on my path. I love them so much.

Dread Shampoos Vs Baking soda wash

Dread Maintenance

I ended up with really bad dandruff too when using the bs and avc (never tried strengthening it though) I started using the bar shampoo from dreadlockshampoo.com in patchouli (which it wonderful for dandruff) and it cleared up right away. I like the shampoo better than the bs (haven't tried the liquid) I found that my dandruff is gone, I don't itch and my locks are tightening up much faster now. I've noticed some serious root lock up in just a few washes

Hello all :)

Introduce Yourself

Im almost 4 months in and haven't noticed much length loss, I started with mine about. Shoulder blade level and have lost maybe an inch, maybe. I have fine thin hair and went the natural way and they stayed pretty tidy the whole time, once in a while they won't be but if its a day where I have to be extra presentable (which is rare for me) I jus wear a tam.
